I have been a pretty beer drinker ever weekend.... What can I do to reverse this? Ive been exercising daily. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 801726you can do a liver cleanse but must not drink before during and after and then eventually in total moderation. If you want to reverse it, you must cleanse and change your ways. just saying. |

Fruit Girl User ID: 793040 United States 10/24/2009 01:04 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Like others have said on this thread, OP, you are going to have to change your life ASAP. Fatty liver is no joke. Fatty liver is caused by the typical Standard American Diet. You need to: -Stop drinking -Start eating more fruits and veggies - eat fruit first thing in the morning on an empty stomach every morning -Cut way back on your sodium intake - no more than 1500mg per day -Cut out white starchy food and sugar -Cut way down on fat intake -drink lots of purified or distilled water every day I'd be careful with liver cleanses, if you have a fatty liver you could become ill if you try to clean it out too fast. Perhaps after you've been off the booze for a few months and have changed your diet, then you can try a liver cleanse. Good luck! |

Quoting: R\\//T 658677er no. Eat more saturated and monounsaturated fats, reduce your carbs to near zero. Carbohydrates are a key factor in the contemporary increase in fatty liver disease. And most importantly - do not eat fruit. Fructose cannot be processed by the body except by creating fat in the liver. Don't go on a low fat diet. If you do, you are just asking for more problems. Fatty liver is a sign that your body is having a hard time coping with carbs. Switch to a fat-burning metabolism. Anonymous Coward User ID: 778030 United Kingdom 10/24/2009 02:33 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Here are a few links to help you realise how bad carbs, and in particular fructose are for you: Fructose can make you fatter [link to www.foodsmatter.com] Fructose linked to liver problems [link to www.ksl.com] and for good measure fructose can give you all the symptoms of metabolic syndrome (Diabetes, High Blood Pressure, Cholesterol and Heart Disease, etc) and a bit of gout thrown in: [link to high-fat-nutrition.blogspot.com] So, if you want your liver to look like goose pate then by all means keep eating those carbs like they tell ya. If on the other hand you want to be healthy then eat the following: A high fat diet (with a good mixture of saturates and monounsaturates from many sources), adequate protein (1g per kilo of bodyweight at least) and 10-15 grams of carbs a day only (mainly green veggies, peppers, etc). Yes, a HIGH-FAT DIET like the one that the pharmaceuticals tell their researchers to tell you NOT to eat so that they can sell you their medications when they have made you sicker and sicker with their food pyramid. And for good measure, you will have some neuroprotection thrown in (no strokes, Alzheimers or Parkinsons), a much improved immune system (fructose suppresses your immune system by 57% for 4 hours - all carbs do, but fructose is worst) and you will have a lower chance of dying of a cytokine storm caused by flu (high fat stimulates the vagus nerve that prevents your immune system committing suicide) Neuroprotective and disease-modifying effects of the ketogenic diet [link to www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] [link to www.mombu.com] Don't take my word for it, go do some Googling and wake up to the fact that you are being sickened and milked by the health care system that they pretend is working for you! |

And yes, you can even have a drink, I do. Just make sure its a nice fine whisky or brandy - or in moderation a good dark rich red wine :) |
Winningjob User ID: 385114 United States 07/27/2010 01:02 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Yeah, me 2 OP. I just got a phone call from the VA saying that my ultra sound did show that I have fatty liver syndrome. My triglycerides are the reason they even noticed something in the first place (they are really high). I am not overly happy about this, but it is my own fault. One can not abuse the body like it is an amusement part without paying some kind of price. The good news is that in most cases it can be reversed. I was put on 2,000 mg of fish oil (Omega 3) a day, but also am looking at milk thistle. I am also wondering about increasing fiber intake. Especially insoluble with any fatty foods?! If you have been living a sedentary lifestyle, try to exercise 20 minutes a day 3x a week. I used to be REALLY active and have been less active the past three years and admit that my lifestyle changed when I moved to Las Vegas. The hardest part is knowing that I will have to cut back (or GOD FORBID..QUIT) alcohol. This past month I didn't order any beer making supplies, but I am not really wanting to give up beer, unless I have to do so. I will have to watch my weight as I was reading that not maintaining weight could increase the probability of having fatty liver...along with diabetes, alcohol and certain drug perscriptions. I am scheduled to see a nutritionist and re-learn how to eat as either I need to learn how to eat better and make better choices or start buying prepared meals like nutrisystem. Guess, I will finish my coffee and drink 4 liters of water today...hit the pool and eat some of that wonderful cereal with 5g of fiber! Last Edited by Winningjob on 07/27/2010 01:07 PM |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 966567 United States 07/27/2010 01:07 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Milk Thistle. Worked for me. Have border line type 2 diabetes, and had to go for 2 blood tests a few months ago. My doc also said my liver was coming up fatty, unsure why ?? I started taking milk thistle and it helped with my follow up blood test, and my results came back normal. Told my doc what I had started taking, (was taking green tea as well) and he said great, looks like it worked. Give it a shot OP. In the vitman section of any healthfood store or super market |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1049386I think that may be part of the problem. Wouldn't alcohol prevent the liver from doing other things with the fat, cholesterol and other impurities since it has to deal with absorbing the alcohol? Hmmm...I wonder if Medical Marijuana would help? LOL |

Milk thistle works, and instead of fish oil, look into Kril Oil. A bit more pricey, but it's worth it. I actually lost 10 lbs by eating 4 veggie servings a day. Smaller meals. STAY AWAY FROM CANNED VEGGIES, THEY ARE NO GOOD. If you find that fresh veggies are too much, go frozen. This is from my nutritionist. Oh, and yes I could drink beer. Just in moderation, and it had to be low carb/light beer. Finding that more and more beer brands are going low carb with their light beers. So you dont have to go the Miller light route.. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 769657Stop eating cholesterol, like butter and esp margarine. No cheese. no more fatty meat. What this person said plus take milk thistle. Liver disease sucks. It is a slow death. You will end up bedridden pissing and shitting yourself as your other organs start to fail. They might consider you an alcoholic and not put you on the transplant list (which is where you are heading) so make sure not to mention the drinking! |

I will look for Milk Thistle next time I am in the big box stores or a nutrition store. The fish oil is a prescription from the VA so it is free. :-) I have upped my fruit servings a day but have not done so with the vegetables. I will see what I can find in the frozen section! I love green beans, salad, carrots (carbs in there I think) and green pepper, cauliflower, broccoli, ect. NOW....to the BEER. Low carb hunh? miller lite (3.2g) Michelob Ultra (2.6g) MGD Light (2.4g) Beck's Light (6.1g) This is probably pushing it. :-( Sam Adams Light (9.7g) DAMN IT. (Guess this one is out) Bud Select (3.1g) Don't like bud, but it is only 3.1?! Milwaukee's Best Light(3.5g)Sigh. Natural Light(3.2g) Sigh. I am really hoping to find a good mix or even beer kit that is low carb. Last Edited by Winningjob on 07/27/2010 01:28 PM |
