Re: JUST GOT A SIG SAUER P250. THROW YOUR GLOCKS IN THE TRASH.
OP please enlighten me on the multi calibers?
You buy one and can ad to that pistol paying to switch out barrels fpr different calibers? Explain simple please?
You got what cal.? Or does buying one buy them all?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 866148

Sig has some vids on Youtube about it. The "guts" or fire control group, the internal parts of the weapon that actually make it work, are what's listed and defined as the firearm. It's all one piece that can be removed from the frame.

Take it out, and you can drop it into a different size frame (full/compact/subcompact). You then attach the corresponding slide/barrel configuration. This is easily done in seconds. It's pretty cool.

Yes, there are arguments saying that you are changing the properties of the weapon because it's modular, and I see the truth in the arguments, but it's still pretty cool. The serial number is on the fire control group, and when you swap it into different frames, it shows through a slot in the frame. Same internal parts, but the gun can quickly change size and shape. Check out the vids. I watched one for half an hour, and made the purchase. Cheers!

Re: JUST GOT A SIG SAUER P250. THROW YOUR GLOCKS IN THE TRASH.
I've "owned a sig" and the only thing they're good for is looking at and stroking. Hands down the most inaccurate pistol I’ve owned or shot (and my buddies have had them too). For the price, Glock is the best out there. Out of the box I can drive tacks with every Glock I’ve shot.

Flawless reliability!!! Go ahead and skip a Glock and a 1911 across the pavement and see which one still fires. I guarantee the Glock will. They’ve tested this many times and a blow the 1911 hammer will cause it to be inoperable.

There is a reason every other manufacture has been following their lead. There is a grundle of features they innovated and got right.
As far as the plastic is concerned, give me a break. Weakest argument ever!
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 866317

Classic Glock fanboy rhetoric. Glocks work well usually, but they've been popular because of the price. As I said, I've owned two, a 9 and a 45, and they were okay, but a won't get another one. Blocky, swelling mags, few advancements since the 80's. They've had their time. There are better options out there. But as was stated, people should use what works best for them.

(FWIW, I have yet to see a tacking driving Glock. You must be a wizard, or other magical being.)

Yes, I've owned a Glock (made by Tupperware). I've had two of them (past tense). Sig's new design is vastly superior in comfort, function, versatility, and aesthetics. Gaston needs to get out more.

It's still a piece of junk compared to a 1911.

They all kill.

Yes, but tell me this - do you think any plastic framed pistol will be in your family 300 years from now?

My 1911 will be!

The 1911 is a good gun, but its old technology.

You have a single stack clip, exposed hammer, and alot more moving parts.

Personally I don’t like the redundant safety mechanisms, or the dovetail safety for that matter. Even though you can have them chambered for different calibers 45ACP is the prevalent version, and once again old technology. They are a bitch to tear down. More moving parts = more things to go wrong. I don’t like the gun geometry (same with sig but the sig is even worse).
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 866317

I can tear mine down to screws and individual parts in 10 minutes.

Glock recommends you never tear their pistols down all the way.

why would you skip a pistol accross pavement before you shoot someone. this sounds like cop logic.

Here is a very simple rule for you. I don’t care how shiny, pretty, or cool your gun is. If you pull that trigger and it doesn’t go bang that thing is as good as a rock. All sorts of crazy shit happens in gun combat (including dropping your gun), do a little research. My point is the firing pin mechanism on a Glock is completely encased. They’ve buried these things in sand, mud, driven over them with cars, dropped them, almost anything you can imagine, and guess what? They still fire!
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 866317

The 1911 worked just fine in Viet Nam, in WWII, in WWI in the muddy trenches, and everywhere else.

If you're a cop and get issued a Glock, sure, it'll work fine. But it is not a high quality or precision instrument. Also look up kaBoom! and see what happens to Glocks when you get a case with a weak web.

One of the two Glocks I've owned was a Model 21 .45ACP -- I traded it in for a Sig P226 .40 (you know, the weapons that government agents use, because they are more accurate, reliable, and ergonomic?)

When ever I start freaking out about reliability, I tend to just leave my auto at home and use my 4-inch Colt Python as my primary (it usually sits on the small of my back as a BUG). If you're gonna worry so much about reliability, a wheel-gun is the way to go. My Kimber CDP is a dream in many regards including reliability, but the very fact that it ejects a casing after each shot means, once in a while, it's gonna have a freak, out of nowhere screwup. Says nothing about any particular brand or design, that's just how it is. Even my Python can screw up on a due bullet.

And, it you have ANY sense at all, you'll never go skipping your gun across the pavement, period. That's why I never bothered with Glocks. I have no issue with plastic pistols, but Glocks aren't so much designed to be reliable as they are designed to put up with the average intelligence of the beat-cops who use them. Any gun I buy will have less emphasis on ludicrous durability through completely unrealistic torture tests, and more focus on being a better, more accurate, more ergonomicly sound weapon. I don't need a gun that can work after a month in swamp muck. I don't. We'd a weapon that you can drop off a twelve-story building and then pick up and fire seven mags through. Because I don't treat my guns like toys.

And for the record, I have no credentials, not one. I am just a normal American exercising his right to put out is opinion in an appropriate and reasonable setting. :)

The P250®, a modular pistol that allows the shooter to change caliber and size at will....

The SIG SAUER® P250 was designed specifically to address the future needs of the military, law enforcement, and civilian shooters around the world. The P250 will be available in the most popular calibers (9mm, .357SIG, .40S&W and .45ACP). The P250's innovative design enables the shooter to quickly remove the functional mechanism and place it into the polymer grip of his choice. This allows an immediate change in caliber and size;(subcompact, compact and full). And after any change the pistol delivers both outstanding accuracy and reliable functionality. Its modularity not only provides incredible ease of maintenance, but also provides a solution for accommodating different hand sizes - there are 6 different ergonomic combinations for each size, accomplished by changes in grip circumference and trigger style. Now you can own the world's only modular shooting system globally engineered to deliver the "To-Hell -And-Back-Reliability" you've come to expect from Sig Sauer.

Returning to the original topic, congrats on finding the gun for you! Completely irrelevant, entirely unamerican antisemetic comments aside, SIG-Sauer as a whole has, for decades, held a reputation of excellence, and the P250 is but another layer of polish on a sterling silver standard of quality craftsmanship and a deep knowledge of gun crafting. Whenever either of my aforementioned EDC guns (Kimber Pro CDP II and a 4-inch Colt Python for a good ol' New York Reload) are unavailable for carry for any reason, be it maintenance, malfunction, or modification, the first thing I do is phone up my uncle and borrow his .45 P250. One of these days, I'm gonna need to get one, cause man, what a SWEET gun! macgun

Sig's are fine weapons.... but I've owned 2 Glock's and I've never had a fail-to-feed or a stove-pipe happen with either of them in over 1000 rounds each.

I certainly have to disagree with people saying Glock's suck and all that jazz. If you simply don't like a weapon because of it's look or feel or way of functioning, that's fine. But Glock doesn't have a fantastic track record for no reason... especially among law enforcement who rely on these weapons to save their life sometimes. They are far from "crappy" weapons.

But above all of these, I like my 1911 the most. cool2

Re: JUST GOT A SIG SAUER P250. THROW YOUR GLOCKS IN THE TRASH.
I persOnally have to agree, a good .22 is a must for any serious shooter. A. Hugely useful training tool. Lots of rounds down range, for pennies on the box. Especially if you carry expensive cartridges, like .45 or .40. B. Just plain old fun! I used to find myself shooting 300 rounds a week through my Kimber, and I'd say about 200 .38 specials and 50 .357 magnums through my python, just to stay sharp. Even with crap ammo, it cost me oodles of green. Now that I've got a Ruger, I can shoot about fifty of each, and spend the rest with CCI Mini-Mags that cost ten bucks for a hundred, at MOST.

As for your vintage 1911-loving buddy... I wouldn't carry ANY centennially aged gun, nomatter who made it! But a high-quality, well-maintained, modern 1911 is one of the finest all-around handguns money can buy.

Also, let's grow up, people. Who on this side of Mogadishu needs 33-round mags in a DEFENSIVE handgun?! xD I'm sorry. Glocks are fine guns, though I personally hate em. What gets ME the most bent out of shape are the rediculous things that the fanboys say about them!

No jealousy about it. I carry a single-stack .45 and a six-shot .357 Mag, and I shoot them well. I have no interest in a 9mm platform, and no need for a bulky, cumbersome extended magazine mucking up my draw-speed. If you live, say, in Gangland, Detroit, and are honestly worried about getting into a gun style so long and intense that you need 33-rounds per magazine, then by all means, take your eight inch double-stacks. For my, and I wager, most people's needs, it's an over the top novelty, and any notion of actually carrying a monstrosity like that Is completely asinine.

I have been trying to convince him to purchase a newer model, something that actually has rifling left hahaha.
he doesnt carry, just a sand pit target shooter.

and its not the only thing he has, just his favorite. i personally favor his fn 5-7, that thing is a true pleasure to shoot, tho pricey.

13rnd clip in my xd 45, its fine with me. and with in reaching distance now if I needed it. I bought it after reading numerous reviews, and research, research, research.
and I just preferred the feel in my hand over a glock.

buddys glock is a compact, i think it holds 8 or 9 rnds. and reliable enough id keep it by my bed stand if need be, id trust it.

The XD is a wonderful gun, though not quite my style. I don't plan on ever owning one, since my current rig is so enjoyable, but still a pleasure to shoot. The Five-seveN never quite piqued my interest; as I said, I love my rig so much, I rarely want anything for self-defense purposes. Couple that with expensive ammo, and no thanks, not the ticket.

What I HAVE always had my eye on was my sister's gun, a S&W 60 Lady Smith. Compared to my Python, it's tiny, which would be useful in summer climes.

You're just jealous of my high capacity mags. Beside, if you are going to call someone ridiculous, at least spell it right.

... What?

I own a Kimber CDP and a Colt Python. Basically, the Bentley and Rolls-Royce of firearms. Explain to me why in the world I'd be jealous of your cheap, ugly, bulky plastic toy, regardless of how many rounds you get with your equally ugly and bulky extended magazines?
