The progress and productivity of any real economy is based on a combination of physical resources, the energy available (think kilowatts of electricity), and the education and willingness of the population (physical and intellectual labor).

Each one of the three I just listed are capable of becoming a basis for an issue of a monetary trading unit.

Thus you have a resource based monetary unit, a unit of energy perhaps based on a kilowatt hour of electricity, and an Ithaca Hours type exchange of human intellectual and physical labor.

Competition in monetary formats can stabilize commercial calculations - Hayek was correct.
