That being said, you mentioned MLB, which I think is almost as boring. NFL, NBA, now I love those sports. Above everything else, though, I love watching MMA. Can't wait for the Couture/Coleman event tomorrow night. |

Doomed in Texas Thread Thrasher User ID: 848166 United States 02/06/2010 12:01 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Almost every sport would seem boring to those who do not completely understand the intricate nuances of the game in question. For instance, I could not fathom how anyone could possibly watch golf on TV until I actually started playing the game. Baseball, for instance, is a very slow game and hard to swallow as a spectator sport. However, if you know baseball inside and out, you will be on the edge of your seat on every move, guessing what will happen next and what moves and counter-moves will be made. It is like a chess match. In my opinion, ice hockey is the best spectator sport because it is fun to watch even if you do not know the ins and outs of the sport. If you do happen to know hockey then you just appreciate that much more. In the world of sports, everything is not always as it seems. There is a whole lot of strategy that goes into sports. The thing you don't seem to realize is that being a red-blooded patriotic American has nothing at all to do with sports. Another thing for you to keep in mind is that all of your NFL or NBA hero's wouldn't last for one half of a soccer game. Soccer is a game of endurance. The action isn't segmented by 'plays' where each team gets a little breather. It's non stop. Your ghetto ball, and hand-egg hero's would be gasping for breath, while clutching their oxygen tanks on the side lines, after 15 minutes of a soccer match. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 886501 United States 02/09/2010 11:05 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Soccer boring? Let's see... Soccer has no commercials or breaks..except a 15 minute half time. What could be better for your brain? Shin guards are the only padding. Soccer is a sport where everyone gets a touch on the ball, if you loose it and you don't come back to defend you will get scored on. If you are a fan, you are one bad pass or one crappy defensive stand from being scored on. All the attacking is gravy. Defender have several assignments much like a free safety in the NFL. If the don't manage when to sit on a pass or when to anticipate, then it makes for a lackluster game on defense. Your team will get scored on. Soccer is much more physical than you think. If you go to a decent game, you will find teams defend in two walls of four men. To score you've got to beat those odds, all the while you are one tackle, kick from loosing the ball.(possession) One last thing, have you ever tried running at a high speed with a ball? Ever tried to make a cut running in American Football? Imagine doing it with a soccer ball. Soccer is the thinking man's sport. You have to figure out opponents weakness on your own most of the time. You can't beat opponents by viewing tape. It's a very different game being on the field. |

It is; you spend all your time thinking, what was I thinking coming to this boring-ass game, when I could have been doing something more constructive, like watching milk curdle.
