Quoting: SoSayWeAll 883744Know how you have that crescent sliver of white showing? It's on the RIGHT side for a new moon, and on the LEFT for the waning moon, right? THis sliver was damn nearly on the BOTTOM. Follow me? I mean granted yes the crescent is not perfectly left or right, it's always rotated a bit, but this was almost perfectly on the BOTTOM of the disc of the moon. Anyone else see this tonight? FYI if it makes a difference, I'm in central NY, around Syracuse. Normal. Crescent points toward the sun. The sun had just set so the crescent will point more or less toward the ground. R. |

OK, I can accept that. "It's normal" is certainly a much more plausible explanation that any of the TEOTWAWKI stuff we've been seeing lately. It's just funny that I've been looking at the silly thing for 46 years now, and that's the FIRST time I recall ever seeing it on the bottom. |

The next one will either signal the 13th month or the first month of the biblical new year, depending on when the barley is seen in Israel next month. Hey THANKS there Sparky, that was intelligent. And FYI, my cell doesn't HAVE a camera and I didn't have a real camera with me either as is often the case, or I very well MIGHT have. |

It will be even more "pointing down", but only by a very little. Then as summer approaches the waxing crescent will start to slew more toward the side of the moon, but still point down. Have fun. Reality User ID: 886029 United States 02/16/2010 12:19 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Oh, and the reason you don't remember is because you probably haven't seen it too often. It's too damn cold to sit outside and gaze at the sky so a lot of winter positions aren't noticed and imbedded in your memory... you're just trying to get out of the warm car and into the warm house and to hell with the sky. In the summer you can sit out in lawn chairs, sipping adult beverages, and observe the sky at your (and the mosquito's) leasure. I think that is where a lot of GLP confusion comes in about what is "normal" in the sky. People are only remembering Summer positions since they can view them for hours all through the summer. The winter sky doesn't match the summer sky. Have fun. R. |

Lovely...and the Earthlight was spectacular...but it slipped behind the fog bank before I could make it home and unlimber my scope. |

Quite ominous I had never seen the moon like that from California. Even the dark side of the moon was slightly more visable than usual. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 846592I am in SoCal, too, and saw the "U" moon last night around 10.30pm at Chula Vista. I have not noticed until a family member (who has absolutely no affinity to anything supernatural) pointed out to me. Emerald_Glow |
