Only 21% Say U.S. Government Has Consent of the Governed
[link to www.rasmussenreports.com]

Fucking A!

Thursday, February 18, 2010

The founding document of the United States, the Declaration of Independence, states that governments derive “their just powers from the consent of the governed.” Today, however, just 21% of voters nationwide believe that the federal government enjoys the consent of the governed.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 61% disagree and say the government does not have the necessary consent. Eighteen percent (18%) of voters are not sure.

However, 63% of the Political Class think the government has the consent of the governed, but only six percent (6%) of those with Mainstream views agree.

Seventy-one percent (71%) of all voters now view the federal government as a special interest group, and 70% believe that the government and big business typically work together in ways that hurt consumers and investors.

That helps explain why 75% of voters are angry at the policies of the federal government, and 63% say it would be better for the country if most members of Congress are defeated this November. Just 27% believe their own representative in Congress is the best person for the job.

Among voters under 40, 25% believe government has the consent of the governed. That compares to 19% of those ages 50 to 64 and 16% of the nation’s senior citizens.

Those who earn more than $100,000 a year are more narrowly divided on the question, but those with lower incomes overwhelming reject the notion that today’s government has the consent from which to derive its just authority. Those with the lowest incomes are the most skeptical.

Seventy-eight percent (78%) of Republicans say the government does not have the consent of the governed, and that view is shared by 65% of voters not affiliated with either of the major parties. A plurality of Democrats (44%) agrees, but 32% of those in President Obama’s party believe the government has the necessary consent.

From an ideological perspective, most moderate and conservative voters say the government lacks the consent of the governed. Liberals are evenly divided.

In his new book, In Search of Self-Governance, Scott Rasmussen observes that the American people are “united in the belief that our political system is broken, that politicians are corrupt, and that neither major political party has the answers.” He adds that “the gap between Americans who want to govern themselves and the politicians who want to rule over them may be as big today as the gap between the colonies and England during the 18th century.”

The book has earned positive reviews from Larry Sabato, Pat Caddell, Bill Kristol, Joe Trippi and others. In Search of Self-Governance is available from Rasmussen Reports and at Amazon.com.

Sixty percent (60%) of voters think that neither Republican political leaders nor Democratic political leaders have a good understanding of what is needed today. Thirty-five percent (35%) say Republicans and Democrats are so much alike that an entirely new political party is needed to represent the American people.

Nearly half of all voters believe that people randomly selected from the phone book could do as good a job as the current Congress.

This is a point I have been trying to make for a while now. If more than half of the voting age population doesn't vote, then how can any government claim consent. If the majority do not vote, the only the majority can rule is if noone holds the office that the election was to fill. Discuss

I do not think this is a surprise at all, when you are poor you get fucked around the most by the local and federal government.

When you are poor you are on a cliff..

Often times all it takes is the governent to fuck with you (fines, taxes etc..) and you will fall right off.

Partisan dicks that think getting welfare means you are living fat and have not worries or stress are not in touch with reality.

LOL I paid 24k in taxes last year, hardly a freeloading loser.

I have been poor i the past so i know first hand what its like and getting
food stamps
rent assistance
etc.....

Does not make you a freeloading loser.

There are so many variables its simply childish to brand the entire thing and everyone as freeloaders.

I mean when you are getting on the fucking bus at 5am to be at work my 8am and playing the same games to get home you are working 12-14 for ass wages and hardly scraping buy so you need a bit of help buying some fucking food...

That does not make you a god damn freeloader.

Are there abuses in the system? YES.

But they are not as high in volume as you would like to believe.

Fuck man.... not everyone can make 75k a year, why is that hard for you to accept?

I stopped reading after I saw Rasmussen.

Maybe they should do a poll and ask how many Americans know what "consent of the governed means" It will probably be 21%

Re: Only 21% Say U.S. Government Has Consent of the Governed
Why do you think they are constantly threatening us with oppressive laws and pushing mind numbing pharmaceuticals on half the population? Why do you think they identify the most outspoken children with intelligence and independent thinking as an outstanding characteristic and demand they be put on methamphetamine before they can attend school?

Most people now believe speaking out against the government is dangerous, and they will be labeled a terrorist.

You might have noticed also a trend in the entertainment industries and the side shows like Nancy Grace and that men who were formerly respectfully referred to as bachelors are now being portrayed by media and entertainment as probable pedophiles , terrorists and 'loners'. The reason for this is obvious to me, these men are the most outspoken when they encounter government corruption because they don't have families to worry about. How many times have you heard someone say "I can't get involved, i have a family to think about"?

As an example of the systematic deception being perpetrated on the public, The real statistics show that 78% of pedophiles are married and have children of tier own, but if you watch CSI 'special victims unit', you will be thoroughly convinced every man over 40 that isn't married is out stalking and molesting numerous children. What is most disturbing about this is that the actual statistics reveal exactly the opposite is true, that it is most often gregarious individuals with many social contacts who are married that are serial pedophiles.. They also tend to be go alongs where the government is concerned and involved in 'youth programs' such as the boy scouts ,public schooling, youth sports, Child protective services and 'CASA'.

Last year over 360 CASA volunteers in Texas alone were found to be convicts, many sex offenders and these are people appointed by the courts to work one on one with abused children in privacy.

What does it take to wake people up , of course they don't have the consent of the governed, they have the obedience of the governed through fear. And the people they are targeting are the people like me who have the courage to point out their lies, and expose them.

Yeah, and it's funny how these people that complain you are freeloading never mention the government paying out billions to billionaire international corporations and banks in bailouts, most of which go to CEO's. And most of them have never raised a callous on tier hands or worked an honest job in their lives. Any money I have received from the government is a drop in the bucket compared to what they owe me and what they have stolen from me

Hmm, the French revolution only ended up with other tyrants. Just like the American revolution.. Look at what the so called freedom fighters will end up with in Libya!

The powers that be have been controlling things for a long time, have literally unlimited money and make it their business to stay in control.

If we the people get too frisky, TPTB will simply kill us..

That is what the do best..

Sad but true..

Now what if people refused to be governed by this system. I have felt in the past that people would have to take arms against the federal government before anything would change.

The founding document of the United States, the Declaration of Independence, states that governments derive “their just powers from the consent of the governed.”

What if we revoked our consent to be government. State and federal governments are all corrupt. The rise of the criminal justice empire, and prison privatization, has victimized tens of millions of Americans for profit, and any for victimless crimes that come down to a matter of personal choice (Pot).

Its blatantly obvious that across partylines, this government has lost the faith of the American people. We no longer believe in in our leaders, but most feel more like they have become our captors.... because they all seek the interest of the corporation.

This could actually be the groundwork for removing the entire federal government. If you didn't know, I know most here do, the federal government is a private corporation, under the direct influence, if not control, of Britain. This is why federal grants are handed out to states for jails, prisons, department of children and families, and every other private interest raping the people....creating the crime.

and drugs... it doesn't even take a "conspiracy theorist" to know the federal government controls the illegal drug trades, and in hand the major street gangs that are terrorizing our cities.

"these are the real terrorist, yet nothing meaningful is done to stop them. Why?"

Americans only hope, is to somehow take back their consent to be governed.... and DISREGARD and openly/publicly revoke our consent to be governed.
