Has anyone else noticed a lack of Birds in their area? | |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 1313099 United States 07/04/2011 01:15 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I have two bird feeders in my backyard and have been feeding the birds here for like 3 years. No matter what time of year both of these feeders have always been packed with birds throughout the day. So packed at times that fights would break out between the birds for a good spot on one of the feeders. Quoting: ºPUKEºWell, I started noticing about two weeks ago that the number of birds coming to the feeders started going down. As each day passed less birds were coming. I am working from home this morning and can see the bird feeders from my office. As of the time of this writing I've only had two birds come to feed. Normally by this time of day many dozens of birds would have come to feed. My girlfriend has also noticed and mentioned about the lack of birds so I know it's not just me imagining things. It's almost like something is causing the birds to want to leave the area. Needless to say this is very strange. There is no construction or anything like that going on in my area that would spook the birds. I also haven't changed the feed or anything. I live a little north of Atlanta so I don't think it would have to do with the toxic brew coming off the Gulf. At least I hope that's not the case because if it's already made its way up here and is affecting the birds then we're really in trouble. Has anyone else noticed a lack of birds like this around their area? yes, yes, yes!! i was just talking about this to a friend the other day. but, whats weird is there are lots of blackbirds and woodpeckers, but not many of the normal birds like robins, etc. im in colorado.... |

SilverPatriot User ID: 1419036 United States 07/04/2011 01:25 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | This year I have not seen any Baltimore Orioles, Carolina Wrens, Eastern Bluebirds, Evening Grosbeaks, Indigo Buntings or Yellow-bellied Sapsuckers. I live in New York and a few years back they poisoned European Starlings and their population has remained small however the parasitic brown-headed is abundant. |

They have to teach the young ones all the different food sources and now there are more seeds and fruits and bugs than there were earlier. Either that or your rich neighbors put out better seed than you do. |

CoinGuy User ID: 1148014 United States 07/04/2011 01:33 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I'm near NYC in the burbs, the dang birds wake me up every morning. they made some kind of nest on one of the peaks of my house. may have to get someone over one of these days to take care of that. but i've been content to leave them be. no hurry. but there are birds and plenty of them. I think for fun I will go to my friends 4th of July barbeque and come across as the strange guy and ask everyone if they think there are fewer birds around. Yep, that's the ticket. I'll make sure to ask when we're talking about something completely different just to screw with their half drunk minds. lol. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 1165953 United States 07/04/2011 01:46 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I live south of Atlanta and its the same thing here. Normally we would have refill our feeders everyother day, sometimes daily, but there no where to be found. I also noticed that all the flowers in my gardens are not blooming when they are suppose to.. everything is just way off this year. dunno |

Sounds to me you do indeed hear birds however, you have not bothered to identify the birds in abundance and those who are not present or in dwindling populations. |

Has anyone else noticed a lack of birds like this around their area? No lack of birds in my yard. I have read that when they are hatching their eggs, you won't see them so much as they are busy sitting on their nests during certain times. Also, do you have a birdbath or other source of water for them? If they have to go elsewhere for water, that could be why you are not seeing so many. |

Destinylee User ID: 1513033 Canada 08/20/2011 08:46 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I live in Northern Ontario Canada. I was just telling my mother about the lack of birds around our area a few weeks ago. I grew up in the North where there has always been an abundance of a variety of birds. The wooded areas I live near have very few birds, I only heard a woodpecker and see a small amount of blackbirds. This is not usual for the North. Something is definately happening to the bird population here. It has been this way all summer. I think this is something we should all be concerned about. It's almost an eerie feeling that something is horribly wrong when I've stood outside near the woods and no chirping birds or birds flying in the sky.Just the odd few I've heard and seen. I live on the outskirts of Sudbury Ontario Canada. |

Yes there have been far fewer birds here this year also, we usually have quite a few house martins in our area, but very little showed up this year :( Hope they come back next year. |
dragunov_1977 User ID: 1444457 United States 08/20/2011 08:53 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Not only a lack of birds in my area but also no hoptoads, fewer squirrels, rabbits, bees, preying mantis (use to see them regular), garter snakes are completely gone etc... Im just a latrine in a judaic controlled society. As a result, the MSM can get away with taking a leak on me. |

Right now I hear only ravens not the usual rustling and chirping as the bird prepare to go south. I am asking other people in the area now - it is quite un-nerving not to hear them.I was doing an internet search when i found this thread. |
