He may have some website with info you seek. Quoting: OZ 1034853I accidentally found out about the Bush Tucker man a while ago. I downloaded the episodes and MAN, they are entertaining. I love that guy! Bush Tucker man FTW! If I remember correctly, he made some field manuals for the Australian army, perhaps you can find those? |

I actually have several books on the plants, which is better than nothing, but to see the actual plant would be so much better than a photo. I do appreciate the help, and will certainly look for Bush Tucker info soon. Truth is stranger than fiction |

Lol Not at all nutritious. Will actually cause illness if eaten. BS. Hemp seed nuts and hemp oil are very good for you. Plus the hemps seeds are really tasty. Better than chips for you. |

stealth mode (OP) User ID: 1014983 United States 07/16/2010 10:08 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Wow! Some really good suggestions you have all left for me! Thanks so much. I know some areas are bigger into this than the area I am in. That is why all I can find so far are in books and on the internet. I am surrounded by Kudzu here...but there is no way of knowing if it has been sprayed or not. Unfortunatly that is true for most everything I might find foraging. The books say to beware of chemicals...but does not suggest how you might know (outside of the obvious dead plants), or where best to look to avoid such things. Kudzu and dandelion are the only ones so far I can identify with certainty. But my first new steps will be the couple mentioned here so far! Research and positive identification will be my first steps...taste tests second. Thanks again. Truth is stranger than fiction |

They may have special programs where botanists guide you on nature hikes and help you learn field identification. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 977661And this is a wonderful suggestion. Maybe this will be my best hope for my area. Truth is stranger than fiction |

I then compare pictures to pictures on websites. Plant identification is easier pic to pic. Also there is a lot of info in GLP's Recession Proof threads. Click on "Topics" above. Find "Economy" heading and you will see "Recession Proof GLP" listed. Click on it and it lists all the threads. These threads had a lot of good info and links on edible plants besides other survival ideas. |
