That the Jewish community at large hasn't nipped this craziness in the bud and thoroughly denounced all the war rhetoric and anti-arab sentiment being propagated through various organs of jewish power speaks volumes. I can only assume through their silence that they tacitly support the CRUSADE for Eretz Yisrael and all the associated violence enacted to this end as well as the foreign (Israeli) domination/co-option of various western countries in which many Jews reside. |

Sadly, this age we're in is one of those September 11 mindsets where everyone is going "hooray for war!" despite forgetting about Vietnam, Somalia and Lebanon. 1. This time, unlike in the three previous wars, the United States is officially bankrupt, to the knowledge of its creditors and even the IMF. 2. This time, unlike in the three previous wars, US military capacity abroad is not just overstretched beyond being adequate but exhausted and itself wary of new operations. 3. This time, unlike in the three previous wars, the Pentagon has publicly admitted it has no viable war plan for a third major regional conflict (probably due to the above two factors) 4. And this time, unlike in the three previous wars, there are a host of nations, proxy groups and economic interests aligned to the nation in question (Iran) who would sabotage such an attack at its first sign of happening. So what is viable, sensible or pratical about attacking Iran? The truth is, nothing. Only 30% of the targets would be hit, so the overall objective would ultimately fail. The consequences of the attack, however, would be much worse for the agressors (US & Israel), as oil supply through the Straight of Hormuz would be abruptly ceased (and the US economy certainly does not need that). Moreover, military retaliation against Israel from Iran, Syria, Lebanon, Hezbollah, Hamas and possibly Turkey would be devestating. Okay, devestating is an understatement. I would say catastrophic. Not even Israel's leaders in the Knesset, including Netanyahu, Ehud Barak, Shimon Peres (and Sharon's corpse) would be safe. In fact, they'd probably be decimated in the first 24 hours, in bunkers or not. So instead of saying "Yeah let's bomb Iran! Turn the deserts to glass!" think about the side that's probably going to end up in a much worse way at the end of all of this. Remember, Israel is a small nation. Very tiny. Very vulnerable. Very contained. This is not going to be another 1948, 1956, 1967 or 1973. It's 2010. Times have changed. The enemies now are actually a lot more dangerous and capable than they ever were. They've had a lot of time to plan this. (Look at Hezbollah's war against Israel in 2006) This is just ONE group that would be opening a massive front in the event of war. And there'd be three to four other fronts for Israel to deal with. Israel must be either suicidal or under a delusion of grandeur. Very bad military way of thinking. History doesn't treat such logic on the battlefield well. Please have some objectivity. War never decides who is right. Only who is left. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 731648 Canada 08/16/2010 10:44 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | A couple of points regarding an attack on Iran... Iran is 4 times larger than Iraq and has over 80 million people, and although many of them don't like the present regime, they are almost all patriots who would resist a foreign invasion.Good luck controlling an area that large with that many people in it. The US could try to "win" by dropping nuclear weapons on Iran's military bases, nuclear facilities and industrial centers and killing 5 to 10 million people, not much long term support for that I would imagine. The Iranian army currently numbers about 450,000 men, slightly smaller than the U.S. Army — but unlike the U.S. Army — it does not have its troops scattered across literally dozens of countries. The US ability to conquer, occupy, and administer Iran is zero and just not an option. Additionally, Iran would have some options for putting pressure on the United States. Iran stopping its oil exports would drive the oil price sky-high in a tight market: Iran accounts for around 7 percent of internationally traded oil. But Iran could also block another 40 percent of global oil exports just by sinking a couple of oil-tankers coming from Iraq, Saudi Arabia and the other Arab Gulf states with its Noor anti-ship missiles. The Iranian Noor anti-ship missile has a 200-km range,it flies at twice the speed of sound just meters above the sea's surface, and it has a tiny radar profile. Its single-shot kill probability is rated as high as 98 percent. They could sink tankers with ease, and in a few days insurance rates for tankers planning to enter the gulf would become just too expensive and the regions oil exports would be shut down completely. Iranian ballistic missiles could strike U.S. bases in the Gulf, and Iran's Hezbollah allies in Beirut might start dropping missiles on Israel. The United States would have no options for escalation other than the nuclear one, and pressure on it to stop the war would mount by the day as the world's industries and transport ground to a halt. The end would be an embarrassing retreat by the United States, and the definitive establishment of Iran as the dominant power in the gulf region. So,there you go,Israel may go in and bomb a nuclear power plant here and there, but the US will not get involved in any major way militarily. On the other hand perhaps military quagmires will become the US' biggest export of the 21st century. |
