~Moi~ (OP) User ID: 1091783 New Zealand 09/08/2010 05:09 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Thanks guys. Yes, very sobering. The authorities are saying that they are expecting another quake as large as or larger to still hit down in that area. Got to feel sorry for them. :( "I saw an angel in the marble and carved until I set him free" ~ Michelangelo |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 664728 New Zealand 09/08/2010 05:17 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Awesome graphic!! Thanks! And it does feel like they come right after each other just like it looks. I am quite concerned because the "aftershock" yesterday wasn't on the fault that started this all. It was a new quake. I thought this and then the geologist on the news last night confirmed it. The new quakes from yesterday in Diamond Harbour and Lyttleton were not off the same fault line that the 7.1 and aftershocks were off of. And if this is starting to trigger other faults---holy crap! We have lots of other faults in the area to go--notably the big one--the Alpine Fault. I was hoping we were winding down with quakes but I am a bit worried that we are just getting started. Good, now that I said this on GLP, it can't happen, right? |

Check it out, it shows both depth and magnitude of quakes, right from the big one. Quoting: ~Moi~[link to www.christchurchquakemap.co.nz] Bravo! ..missing sounds |
~Moi~ (OP) User ID: 1091783 New Zealand 09/08/2010 05:55 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Well having been in a very, very large quake whilst I was in Guatemala, and countless smaller quakes in New Zealand. I can tell you the sounds can be scary. Some roll, some are sharp. Dunno that sounds would do anything for those visuals though. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1085549Hmmm, thats what I thought. I dont feel that good about it all today. When I have big headaches, and wake up with them, there seems to be co-inciding earth movements. I noticed this earlier in the year with the LA quake. |
