Iran has successfully test fired a supersonic anti-destroyer ballistic missile, called the Persian Gulf, which is capable of targeting different warships.


Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Brigadier General Mohammad Ali Jafari announced the successful mission in a press conference on Monday, saying that the new radar-evading missile is in mass production stage, Fars News Agency reported.

IRGC Air Force Commander Brigadier General Amir Ali Hajizadeh also explained that the Persian Gulf is a "supersonic and anti-warship" missile.

"The new missile's difference with other missiles is that it is a surface-to-sea missile and is capable of vertically hitting every enemy warship or speedboat," Hajizadeh said.

"The operational range of the missile is 300 kilometers and the warhead contains 650 kilograms of explosives," the IRGC commander added.

The Persian Gulf missile has a combined guidance system, which locks the target in the final stage and makes evasion impossible, the commander said.

"The fuel of the Persian Gulf missile is solid and it has been designed by the IRGC's Aerospace Research Center and produced by the Defense Ministry," Hajizadeh concluded.

In September 2009, Iran successfully test fired long-range Shahab-3 missile which can hit targets up to 1,250 miles (2000 km) and is capable of carrying a 1,000-760 kilogram warhead.

Iran had earlier produced Shahab-1 and Shahab-2 medium-range missiles with multiple warheads capable of hitting targets between 185 and 435 miles (300 and 700km).

The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps also produced three short-range missiles -- Tondar-69, Fateh-110 and Zelzal.

how can the vehicle be targeted when clearly in the last war game Iran demonstrated satellite blinding technology (they call the new technology satellite image whitning) that official mentioned will be used in war to blind spy and military satellites from take pictures or videos. By the way this device was developed a Iranian university students a few years ago and its UNIQUE IN THE WORLD. Unique because world powers (US, RUSSIA and CHINA) use anti-stallite missiles to destroy enemy satellites but Iran has developed electronic and satellite signal blinding tech instead of a anti satellite missile. Anyway if a satellite wants visualy find a moving mobile missile vehicle it would be impossible to view all of Iran's southern territories closly to find the launchers and it needs SPY PLANES to do this. We all know that no spy plane will survive or dare to enter Iranian air space.

Anyway the missile is supersonic with mid-air and intellegent course correction (the official said its fire and forget) and verticaly hitting missiles to make phalanx anti-missile systems useless. Anti-ship missiles are sea-sceaming and thats why world powers like US has developed phalanx anti-cruise missile system to defend.

Keep your warships >300km from the shoreline.. problem solved.

well Persian gulf is under 300km wide at widest. so the US fleet has to leave Persian gulf entirely and we know they will not.

Anti-ship missiles are all well and good, but they aren't much use against B-2 bombers and / or cruise missiles aimed the launchers.

If US could use its satellite to any effect on Iran then why would its military depend on Iranian released footage of war games or try to sneak aircraft close by to watch Iranian war games?

That's why when i say during wargames Iran effectively blinds US satellites and fires at any aircraft or try to sneak in. hope that answers the nonsense using satellite to see or target and hit. US military has shit when it comes to Iran.

B-2s are just hyped. Remember F-117 hype and how Serbs downed 2 of them via old (obsolete) SAMs. Something I know is western military propagandizes alot. The best weapon they can use is a nuclear weapon. All of other technology they have to show are just hyped and useless.

It was 1, and the general agreement is that that was a lucky shot, also, B-2s fly higher than F-117s.

there was a interview that I have a hard time to find the post of it. It was of a reporter interviewing with Iranian military industry official who himself was an engineer. the reporter s part of its interview asked question about is there any defenses against US F-22 and F-35s and even US stealth bombers and the engineer went into some detail explaining the short comming of each and how the defenses where tuned to detect and down these aircrafts. It was a nice interview. I remembered reading he talked about using electro-optical sensing and also identifying these aircrafts through their WAKES flying through the air and a variety of other non radar means to detect them and how to set a trap for them. It was very informative and gave a little detail on how Iranian military is ready for these aircrafts. He mentioned thats why in major war games they train and practice detecting stealthy aircrafts and downing them.

Radars are not the only mean today to detect threats and a good defense needs many different method of detection all combined together to be effective he said.
