Should Bush Get Credit for bin Laden killing?
Could the successful U.S. operation that killed al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden lead to a reassessment of the Bush administration’s national security apparatus, much of which has been the focus of political controversy?

Some former Bush administration officials are arguing for that in light of the U.S. operation that killed Mr. bin Laden. U.S. officials say some of the initial strands of intelligence that eventually led to Sunday’s military operation came from terror detainees captured after the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks, including some held at the military prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

President Barack Obama said Sunday he was first briefed last August about some of the fruits of years of that intelligence work, which focused on finding a courier whose trail led to the Pakistani compound where bin Laden was hiding.

Re: Should Bush Get Credit for bin Laden killing?
Expat here: I say no. Even now, the killing's a Pyrrhic victory. We destroyed the greatest economy on Earth, and allowed the elite to destroy the greatest representative government, all in the name of pursuing this one man. Bush was largely responsible for that. Obama was just picking up where he left off.

So, it's good that he's dead, but let's not kid ourselves into thinking this is a victory.

Erm, presidents don't have anything to do with it other than sometimes giving the nod. So who gives a shit, they're just puppets. This site is full of information - how you do not know this already is outstanding.

I agree I don't think it's a victory. I am still amazed by all the events that have happened leading up to this point. I do have questions of it's validity.

Re: Should Bush Get Credit for bin Laden killing?
Considering how Bush changed his tune and decided to not even think of Bin Laden, focusing his attentions on Saddam and power grabs, using Gitmo and other resources for THAT mission instead of the mission it was sold to the congress to do, no, Bush shouldn't be given 'credit'.

might as well credit the arms manufacturer that made the weapon(s) that inserted the bullets in Bin Laden.

Might as well give credit to the helicopter manufacturers, and all of the other tool makers who made any tool used in the eventual 'capture' of bin Laden.

Gitmo was a tool, initially intended for getting terrorists, maybe, but not actually used by the Bush Administration to do that job.

Bush 'gave up' on Bin Laden, decided to not even think about him. Bush also declared 'victory' in Iraq well before the end of that war, and focused on other things.
