Which is more impressive: a master's degree or having a book published? | |

Most people dont have a ms, nor a book published, so theyre impressed by either. If you avoid sciences, a MS is rather easy to get, go for the MS unless your book is already written... of course you could just self publish lol. |

Having knowledge is great, but I know many people who are well educated and don't do very well in the "real world". If one his their work published it indicates that he is able to transfer his knowledge into a marketable skill. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 1395930 United States 05/28/2011 11:37 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | True, anyone can get a book self-published if they have the scratch. To legitimately get a book published is still pretty impressive. But of course, who reads books today? |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 1403209 United States 05/28/2011 11:42 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Hmm, well it just takes one opinion or a handful of opinions to get a book published. Earning a masters takes years of dedication and hard work... that being said, though, I myself tend to feel more impressed by someone who has had a book published. I guess it seems more glamorous. To the person who said "Who reads books anymore" ME!!! And lots of people I know actually. There are still some of us who are Kindle-free and trying to keep it that way :) |
CaptainSensible User ID: 1402608 United States 05/28/2011 11:47 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Or get an article published. Still kind of impressive, but a lot less work than a book! I have a wacky article published, kind of impresses some people. Took me maybe 30-40 hrs in total to write. "I once put instant coffee in the microwave... I almost went back in time." "I do not see coincidence, I see Providence." "To the mind that is still, the whole universe surrenders." |

Having said that, our president is an example of someone who used a "ghost writer" named Bill Ayers and had some rich Muslim pay his way through college so in his case neither his education or his book is worth a bucket of warm spit. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 1328412 United States 06/24/2011 10:58 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Given the decline in educational standards and proliferation of courses of dubious rigor then it's possible to say that anyone can get a masters degree these days, but not everyone can get a book published.
