WORD UP: ONE MILLION May Lose Drivers Licence Under EU Diabetes Diktat
Up to one million people with diabetes could lose their driving licences because of harsh new European rules classifying them as unfit to drive.

Experts claim the ‘unnecessarily strict’ changes will affect hundreds of thousands who have been driving for decades without problems.

...the rules amount to a blanket ban on diabetics taking insulin who occasionally have ‘hypos’ – episodes of hypoglycaemia, or low blood sugar,
which may cause blackouts if not countered with a sugary snack.

WOW! Just WOW! Sounds like the UK government has it all under control. They are really looking out for you guys! /sarcasm

Diabetics prone to hypoglycemia know that they need to carry something with them just in case. The diabetics I know always carry something with them. It's called self-preservation. Diabetic coma and/or death is not something they want to experience.

Sad part is, I can see the US headed in the same direction. We have so much to look forward to.

True, I almost got into two accidents from women that have blacked out and went into the diabetic shock. Both of them crashed and I was the first witness on the scene to both.

This is real and VERY dangerous, Its about time.

Ive seen the accidents , To see a oncoming car swerve and runaway out of control into your lane of traffic is something youll never forget, much, much worse than a drunk driver trying to stay in the lane.

They could kill their kids or someone elses kids.

It's about time?

No wonder your signature says you'll take an order of one world.

Jus because someone has diabetes now there supposed to lose an ability to have a livelihood? Try getting by without a license in the US. Unless you live in a city, and your doomed anyway if you do, you can't get by.

This is just another overzealous government grab. More accidents are caused from idiots with cell phones than diabetics.

But you probably use your cell phone while driving too.

I saw what I strongly suspected was a driver have a diabetic attack in front of me while he was driving down the street. He was mildly convulsing as he drove up to, and then passed out at the light in front of me for like 60 seconds. Then he woke up and drove on. I called the police and gave his plate number hoping they'd stop him before he killed someone. He did not appear drunk, but sick. I do think these folks are taking lives and are not discriminating enough to know it's not safe for them to be driving. I'm all for freedom, but not at the expense of people's lives being lost because of people who have serious health conditions and can't discern that's it's unsafe to drive.

My Mom had grand mal seizures. She found out over 30 years after diagnosis that it wasn't epilepsy after all. It was hypoglycemia. She was not allowed to drive most of her life due to her "epilepsy" diagnosis and that's a GOOD THING. I would only expect the same for those prone to a low blood sugar seizure and/or blackout.

I dont use my cellphone, But I always see a blonde woman gabbing away , phone pressed to her ear and shes driving and often under the speed limit then speeding up erratically, never consistant. They wouldnt have the ability to react in time to a near accident

Phones should be banned in all driving. It can wait until a stop or destination.

Precisely, they are dangerous on the road

When a man and I tried to help a woman, He jumped out without shoes, (driver without shoes) and he impaled his foot on the glass, She had near hit me and crashed and tore down someones fence

She was bleeding and hunched over her steering wheel passed out.

I had the same near accident twice with diabetics in a span of three years

The stats show that you have a:

1.5% chance of getting into a car accident (Non-diabetic)
0.9% chance of getting into a car accident (Diabetic)

A study for your reading pleasure:

"The estimated overall annual accident rate for the non-diabetic population was 1469 per 100,000 vs. 856 per 100,000 for the diabetic population as a whole (Chi-squared, P < 0.001). On stratification of the groups by age, within the insulin-treated group there was no significant difference in the accident rate compared to the non-diabetic population, with relative risks between 0.51 [confidence interval (CI) 0.25-1.05] and 1.13 (CI 0.88-1.46)."

Makes sense to me. Of course the freedomtards here will claim that people have the "right" to drive no matter if you're drunk, without a license, yapping on a cell phone, texting, shoving a big mac in your cake-hole, having you dog on your lap, etc. etc.

I was at the driver's exam center one time and waiting in line there was this old guy, maybe late 70s. He was actually wheeling his life-support system around on a little cart (O2 being fed through a nose tube and some other electronic monitoring equipment. HE WAS RENEWING HIS DRIVER'S LICENSE!

Do you think that guy has a right to drive? Do you want to be on the highway with someone who could keel over or black out at any minute, without warning no matter if they had a Snickers bar in the glove box or not?
