It's my opinion that we aren't educating the right people for the right jobs. What I've seen since my kids have been in college (both in enginering - son is working on BS and daughter PhD) is that only a small fraction of students in master's/PhD programs are American. My daughter's nanotech program has two white students and the rest are Chinese. We have to invest our educational dollars in educating our own students, not those from China and India. This goes on in all the tech fields. We are training the Asian students to go home and steal our ideas while we don't have enough trained Americans here to fill the slots.
