I've got a theory too, and it's just like yours, I made it up with zero evidence to back it up.

I have a better one. The dinosaurs never lived on Earth. Instead they inhabited Tiamet which if you have done any study what the hell is really going on you would know Tiamet was destroyed about 65 million years ago in a solar system disaster. Half became the asteroid field and half became the planet Kee which means cleaved planet.

Tiamet was a huge planet with lots of shallow seas and gentle hills not the huge craggy mountains of Earth. Records from early civilizations here obviously prehuman talk about how forever Earth was a constant fog, you never saw the sun. Also the moon did not exist then. After the deep Pacific scar of exposed magna was hardened up by exposure to the sea this fog effect disappeared. But it probably was this dense atmospheric effect of the sea that saved any remnant of life on Kee. But only small rodents, small birds and things like crocodiles survived. Most plants and all land animals larger then a mouse went extinct. Most fish did too.

Eventually Kee regained its round shape like all damaged space bodies do if they have enough mass. Later a space base was started here again near Iraq and it was called Eridu. Later when humans appeared they called their planet after what their creators called it. The creators were just naming an insignificant mining colony base but to humans it was the label of their home. So derivations of Eridu are in many languages such as english using the word Earth.

Meanwhile Earth has permanent damage from this Tiamet incident. The crust is unnaturally thin unlike the other planets in the solar system. It is also unnaturally uneven. In normal planet creation theories planets cannot have a layer like Earths crust that is 30 or more kilometers deep in the continents and only 2 kilometers deep in the Pacific. That is unnatural. But once the magna scar healed nothing can recreate the missing crust. Just enough magna to insulate it from further thickening is all that would occur. As a result Earth is now prone to disasters from polarity reversals. That is why a space base was never rebuilt after a polarity reversal destroyed the last one.
