As well as Hunting and fishing, boating, camping, hiking. Unlike many other places we have Clean Air and fresh water. That's a bonus for me in a bug out situation. I would rather bug out from here into the mountains then from any coastal area, or desert area. Here I can survive in the wild just fine. Glad I don't have to try and get out of Las Vegas or Phoenix. Central, Eastern and Northern Idaho are the best. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 3612993 if you are not a morman, then it is like being black in the south. from California? When is California welcome anywhere? LOL> lol...California has become shit. We want to move now while we're fairly young with a little money, and virtually no debt. We're not Morman, but we've talked to several people there who aren't Morman, so I'm not sure if it's as Morman as you claim. |

Some of them even want to change Idaho's gun laws to make them more anti-gun. Hell ISU as gun shows held on campus, why do they want to get rid of that? Here is a list of good trees and plants than you can get that well grow in Idaho if you move there. [link to www.fast-growing-trees.com] |

Quoting: JackedVegan Wife and I looking into a possible move to Boise. The people seem fairly welcoming, the downtown is clean, and the air fresh. opinions? "For a California transplant" makes ALL the difference. HELL NO! Idaho sucks for everything except sitting around looking at trees. Or looking at desert, if you are talking southern Idaho. This state is a mormon controlled republican stronghold that is backasswards in many ways. There are no jobs and a repressive religious fundamentalist vibe that you can almost choke on. If you want zero excitement and nothing to do besides live off a pension then go for it. If you are under 50 and used to California / west coast life stay away. Washington or Oregon is a much better choice. Idaho is nothing but rednecks and religitards. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 2847074 United States 03/21/2012 08:15 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I'm in Spokane WA. right on the Idaho border. Northern Idaho is rural and poor except for Coeur d'alene, which is expensive, beautiful and tons of Cali transplants live there. Spokane is nice too, a bit larger and poorer, but fairly nice. I rent a decent 3 bedroom, 2 bath with central heat and air in a nice middle class neighborhood and pay only 900 a month. Sandpoint Idaho is also beautiful, cheaper than Coeur d'alene, and right next a a great ski moutain. It is much more rural than Spokane or Coeur d'alene. Can't speak for the south of Idaho, haven't spent much time there. Much less black people in north Idaho because of all the racists/neo nazis. Idaho laws suck though if you smoke herb or lead alternative lifestyle. We have a nice medical MJ law here in washington. |

Meggarea User ID: 1585244 United States 03/21/2012 08:58 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | As someone who moved from California to Idaho (and back again), I got one word for you - COLD! Cold unlike anything you have ever even imagined. Did you know diesel fuel freezes? Did you further know that is the requirement for a snow day, at least in Idaho Falls? The fuel in the buses has to actually FREEZE for them to close the schools. Beautiful, wonderful state - great people, and absolutely the nicest summers ever. But you cannot even fathom the levels of cold. Shoveling my driveway at 5am in -20 is not something I ever want to experience again. The snow starts in November, and I actually saw it snow on the Fourth of July once. It's usually warming up by the end of May or so. I drove a 19 foot UHaul truck through a blizzard to gtfo of Idaho. That's how cold I was. |

Second, as pretty as it is, there are some pollution problems. [link to en.wikipedia.org] INL was one of the first nuclear reactors ever built. Back in the day, they weren't very careful with that radioactive material. But forget the nukes, let's talk about the mining! [link to news.discovery.com] I wish someone had pointed this out to me before we went. |
