It is only because of the ridiculously protracted and expensive legal process as it now stands.For cases where there is little or no doubt and little or no reason for any significant delay, prompt execution is cheap and doesn't even remotely compare to the cost of keeping a worthless piece of shit housed, clothed and fed and in the process of repeated appeals.
