Were people in the Old Testament really that Old?
The fifth chapter of Genesis is the genealogy of Adam and Eve. It gives us the ages of some of Adam’s children (and their children’s children). Many times in the Old Testament we see the life span of humans reaching great ages. Many as old as 900 years.

The Bible tells us that:

Adam lived 930 years (Genesis 5:5)
Seth lived 912 years (Genesis 5:8)
Methuselah lived 969 years (Genesis 5:27)
And Noah lived 950 years (Genesis 9:29)

Many people wonder how, or if this is possible.

What is the answer?
Did humans once have a much longer lifespan?
If so, why is it that most people today do not live to be 100?

Perhaps there is the "Ageing Gene" and gods decided to shorten it after the flood?

No its real doode. Dinosaurs and all the other giant stuff was that was due to the environment was different. This scientist has recreated it in a hyperbaric chamber with good results.

Re: Were people in the Old Testament really that Old?
I don't know. So the question I ask myself is: How could this be true?

Some guesses:

1> Maybe the flood was caused by a prehistoric nuclear war amoung the "gods" and what we now call "background radiation" is responsible for our rapid aging.

2> Perhaps the flood was caused by the near passage of a large wandering celestial body. Widespread resultant vulcanism caused global cooling. Most of the water vapor in the atmosphere fell to earth as rain. More atmosphere was lost to the passing giant. A result being everyone is now exposed to more cosmic radiation, thus shortening their lives?

3> "God" started his "garden" with special genetic breeding stock and they were fed a restricted diet. Humans from the garden revolted and went "wild". Then most of the "garden crop" was killed in the flood. The survivors lost the benefits of genetic programming and prescription diet, so their lifespans decayed.

Re: Were people in the Old Testament really that Old?
This is one explanation:

Touching genealogies, in which men seemed to have lived to so great an age, this, then, is the explanation for it:

Thothma had said to his recorders: In searching for the truth of legends, give the latitude of it. For one legend will say, such a man lived seven hundred years ago, another legend will say he lived one thousand and fifty years ago. The latitude between them is, therefore, three hundred and fifty years, which shall be the time of that man's life.

And in this way latitude became confounded with fact, and with no intent to deceive.

And behold, it came to pass that the records were worthless; and to make matters worse the records were so voluminous, being more than six thousand books, that the scribes of Ezra could make neither head nor tail of them. Nevertheless, they were all written, in the first place not by the Israelites, but by their enemies; where, even so, the testimony of the miracles is none the weaker.

Yeah, used to be real beautiful back then, Think of vegetation and fruit trees and edibles covering every square inch of earth. There would be no starvation or drought, it would be unheard of. Weather would be moderate and not the extremes we have today

The Earth of today is really a hostile planet. It would be classified as semi barren now compared to its original condition.

Maybe, but I believe that their bodies renewed themselves with more vigor than ours do today. Our bodies stop being able to renew at optimal levels after 30 years of age. It continues to decline through old age. And, Yes, the renewal of the cells is dedicated by God's decree. That's my 2 cents.

The original settlers here were from worlds where it is normal to live a couple thousand years. Because of the Earth's density and vibration the later generations were not so lucky.

The first article is hardly scientific. The second article doesn't scientifically support you claim.

It's sad when frightened people like you have to resort to such tricks to hold on to your fairy tales. One of which requires us to be honest, which of course you are not being by posting links to these articles.

This is why non-religious people hate hypocrites like you.

Re: Were people in the Old Testament really that Old?
The earth was different before the Biblical world flood event.

- Most the planet was land
- Most the planet was covered in vegetation, world wide rainforest-like environment
- no oceans like we have today
- a thick, misty haze atmosphere where you couldn't see the sun like you can now
- Such a world was possible for dinosaurs; a rich environment for them to grow to huge size

Before sin came along, there was no death for man, thus he lived forever. Adam chose to sinned and the sin nature entered man's DNA, making death possible. The DNA decayed over the generations, making man live shorter and shorter until what we have today.

Re: Were people in the Old Testament really that Old?
more oxygen will just burn you out quicker. That is why noone breathes 100% oxygen. It oxidizes you. People in higher locales seem to actually live longer.

It is gravity which destroys the body over time. it breaks down the organs and the bones. Gravity hasn't changed in 4 billion years. Those savage desert nomads were just making up fairy tales.
