From watching the video I figured this.
The kid had been practicing in front of a mirror how he was going to rattle off all these particular national cases supporting his point for the last couple of weeks, he cranked out some Metallica to get his courage up then it was off to the corner market to pace back and forth with his piece, he's all worked up, he feels everyone is looking at him, then he's looking back at them, and they all know something is up, they just don't know he's trying to entrap the police for a viral video. So they call the cops, they come in to check things out and you got a video to watch, edited just the way you saw it.

The cop should have just have just said he looked suspicious, and then checked the info, because he did.

The people who are against this guy or a bunch of idiots, with your but and if statements. If he was a criminal he would not be carrying it openly for everyone to see. If this is the point you cannot understand you have become dumber than my dog

I wouldnt have said that 10 years ago lol. ahh the art of growing up.cool2

The cop seemed very reasonable.

The citizen lost his cool. He could have walked away with alot less attitude. Refusing to give your first name is in my books disrespectful. Not just to a cop but to anyone.

Citizen would have done better to respectfuly let the cop know he was not a felon and given his identity. Instead he acted like he was a teenage rebel out to prove a point, pretty embarrising to watch from here.

very lucky he wasn't arrested for FAILING TO PROVIDE ID upon request

most LEO would have arrested him and left it to the courts to sort out

i wouldn't suggest anyone trying this unless they're up for the challenge

If the cop would complete an identification license agreement first he could get ID.

the guy in the video was a retard. he gave the cop a loaded gun. then he complained that the cop pointed the loaded gun at his legs.

Re: Knowledgeable man schools rookie cop after being detained for open-carry.
Sorry, but the guy was a prick. Im all for guns, but seems like he was walking around waiting for a cop to stop him so he could start quoting laws. Bravo to the cop for acting like an adult, all he wanted to do was find out what was going on.
 Quoting: AmericanInfidel

The point is... NOTHING was going on, and the law-abiding citizen was harassed and detained ANYWAY.

What part of that don't you get, you DUMB motherfucker?

And how do YOU know that his intention was to DRAW the police? You could TELL that he was not ENJOYING the situation AT ALL, and CONTINUALLY asked to be on his way!

Listen, stupid... I know several people in my town, who regularly open carry, who know the law well, and aren't in the least bit interested in drawing in police. But if they inadvertently do, you can bet that they will ALSO record the interaction on their cell phone, because it's just downright PRUDENT nowadays, to DEFEND yourself from those who REGULARLY lie their ass off, in court. And in courts who AUTOMATICALLY take the word of police, just because, they are police.

People like you, are the exact REASON that things are going the way that they have been. And you re the very same type of asswipe who would cry and whine the LOUDEST, in a FEMA camp.

Lolz. I carry, have a CWP and don't bother anyone. The cops responded to calls of a man with a gun. You have a problem with that? Let's say you are sitting on your front porch or whatever and you see someone you have never seen before walk past your house holding a gun in his hand. What would you do? Yes, cops often lie in court, but that's very hard for them to do now when they are micced up and everything is recorded.

Re: Knowledgeable man schools rookie cop after being detained for open-carry.
So... according to US laws, or the laws of that particular state, that guy is free to walk around with a gun UNLESS he just shot someone or just robbed a bank? :) LOL don't you guys think that you can't really prevent a crime AFTER it has been committed? Don't get me wrong, I'm not defending the police (the cop wasn't being rude though), but this guy seemed to overreact. So, he either doesn't have a permit or he's dirty... or he just loves having his ego massaged... or he was making sure no one fks with him :)
 Quoting: musicadi

As has been pointed out multiple times,

1. no permit is necessary to openly carry a sidearm in that state.

2. The police need either reasonable or probable cause that a crime has been committed or is about to be committed to even talk to this man. They had no such cause.

3. To my knowledge there has never been any kind of crime committed by an open carrier. It is absurd to even suggest that someone would rob a bank and then stroll down the road while open carrying a sidearm.

4. The ego massage charge is common among a certain type of person. It has about as much validity as your other comments.

To your second point, the cops were responding to several calls about a man with a gun. Its the cops job to find out if everything is on the up and up. Im all for open carry and gun rights, but this kid was a prick. He should be happy that cops responded. Oregon? Suspenders? Sounds like a skin head trying to start shit because his leader made him study gun laws. Kid was probably trying to get his rights violated so he could sue. But it is good to see anyone getting one over on the cops by using their knowledge of the law.
 Quoting: AmericanInfidel

It wasn't in Oregon, you stupid motherfucker. All of your comment make it incredibly clear that you are one STUPID motherfucker.

Suspenders? Since WHEN does THAT indicate that someone is a "skinhead"???

And if he was "trying to get his rights violated", then why did he CONTINUALLY ask to be on his way?

I would LOVE the chance to have someone like you spout off in person, right in front of me. because instead of explaining reality to you, I would simply break your fucking idiot nose, and be on MY way.

I'm SICK of brain-dead FUCKTARDS like you.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 5153493

Ya, sorry. I just saw Portland on the police car and thougt Oregon. I only know of 3 people who wear suspenders. Lumberjacks, skin heads and hipsters. Hipsters don't carry guns, they would carry swords. Lumberjacks would be too busy working. And I'm not the one spouting off, I just have a different opinion then yours. If that's reason enough for you to break my nose, I will Zimmerman your ass, leave you in a puddle of your own. Loos and be on my way. Next.

I would popped that kid in the mouth for acting like that. He was obviously fishing for it and lured in his catch well. Congrats next time I see someone eating a hamburger on the sidewalk in Oklahoma I'll make sure to call the police and tell them someone is breaking the law. God knows we can't use common sense against laws anymore. Sure open carry is legal but if your going to patrol for hours along a busy section and not appearing to do anything then yeah your going to get a police officer heading your way. Based on the way the kid reacted to it he completely expected it and probably did a lot in order to get attention for the call. IF someone calls the police station because they see someone acting strange and on top of it a gun on their side they will of course call for help. Fuck this kid for trying to make a show out of the system. I'm not saying the law should be revoked because I like the law but I don't like snot nosed little shits who have nothing better to do than fuck with people.
