Anonymous Coward User ID: 6376876 United States 07/17/2012 03:51 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Want to sell a silver chafing dish that weighs 6 pounds. Did meltdown conversion and it says it is worth $1800. CAn this be right? How much can I really expect to get for it? Quoting: SEA1960 11620858 Prolly not, duder. More than likely it is plated, not pure silver. For your sake, I hope it is, but I very much doubt it. Silver is weighed in Troy ounces and pounds (12 Troy ounces to a Troy pound). 6 lbs of pure silver is 8 lbs Troy. 8 pounds Troy is 96oz. So theoretically, the melt value would be even greater than 1800, assuming that the dish is .999 silver, which I highly doubt that it is. Good luck all the same. I would sit on it as long as you can. Someday the metal market is going to bust loose, but not today. |
