Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 8788578 United States 11/07/2012 01:40 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | 1 Corinthians 15 tells us that ultimately, God will become "all in all". Daniel 2 talks about a Stone, cut without hands, that grinds Nebuchadnezzar's statue to dust, and then grows until it fills the earth. This Stone is Christ and His kingdom. Habakkuk 2 tells us that eventually, "the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord as the waters cover the sea". Isaiah 26 tells that when God's judgments are in the earth, its inhabitants will learn righteousness. Psalm 2 talks about being granted the heathen as an inheritance, and the ends of the earth as a possession. In Revelation 22, the leaves of the Tree of Life are for the healing of the peoples (Greek = ethnos). David tells the Father in Psalm 65 "Unto thee shall all flesh come". In Revelation, we're told that the gates of New Jerusalem never close. Isaiah 60 elaborates upon this, saying in verse 11 that they remain open so that the kings and armies of the nations may be brought within (also, see verse 5). These things all describe what Ephesians calls "the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus" to become evident in the coming ages. So where's the fucking problem?! Some politician you folks are suspicious of gets re-elected and you're ready to bunker down? Really? |

All that waiting and praying for something that simply isn't going to happen. Eventually they'll reach breaking point and hopefully just invent and orchestrate the rapture. How, I have no idea but if it means they all fuck off then I'll help! It's actually quite disturbing to listen to these deranged maniacs babbling on about stuff that wouod seem far fetched in a movie... The point is whether we really have any faith that God is sovereign and whether we're willing to consider that our contrived, prepackaged doom is *not* an absolute. Most christians believe the mass-marketed Left Behind tripe that our masonic overseers have been peddling for decades - I swallowed it myself for a long time. And to even suggest that it's likely just bullshit propaganda tends to get you (by which I mean me) labeled a Heretic, as does venturing to scrutinize the goofy scenarios which most assume are written in stone. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 26202700 There's no hurt, God didn't let anyone down. Its going to get way, way worse before it gets better. Anyone with faith knows that God is letting or causing things to unfold as he sees fit to fulfill His plan. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 26202700 I can agree. I came from a fundamentalist family and actually was active in the church and made a profession of faith when I was young. My whole family has hated Obama since before his first election. I haven't talked to any of them since the election, but I know they are really pained. I have had I don't know how many discussions with them in the last four years, but they won't often acknowledge basic facts, no matter how much documented proof I give them to back up my points. I think a lot of the problem is that since the 1950s-60s, evangelicals became more and more political than they had been for most of our history. They used to be involved in specific issues, but not generally in political campaigns where they all voted alike. Before, they tended to vote more on their economic interest, especially outside of the South. This new political involvement developed at the same time as revolutions in the media and advertising and as the slow rise of mega churches (the older ones with 2-4 thousand back in the 70's and 80's). I remember when I was in my late teens and early twenties that my parents would get tons of mailers from groups like the Moral Majority, tons of messages on tapes, cable TV shows, etc. Every one they associated with got the same and all had so many similar ideas about everything that they could almost finish each others' sentences--just a slight exaggeration. One core idea in all of this media was the insistence that the Bible and Constitution were one and the same, that we were God's chosen people, etc. With my knowledge of American History, the Constitution, and the Bible, I knew these beliefs didn't hold water. Also, they have been insistent that the END Times are always here. I can remember when Hal Lindsey's The Late Great Planet Earth first came out. He was predicting such things as that the rapture would come as soon as the EU had 12 members. That prediction didn't last for long. How many times has he updated it? Then again, this apocalyptic attitude has been central to much of Protestantism since the 17th Century. The attitudes have become more and more extreme as the nation has changed around them. It's as if they live in an echo chamber. They really were convinced that they would win because, to rephrase Pauline Kale's statement about McGovern in '72, everyone they knew was voting for Romney. These attitudes had a lot to do with me leaving the church. I don't look forward to seeing my family at Thanksgiving. |

A Christian who believes the Bible knows doom on the world is absolute at some point, but who knows when doom will occur, it could be a long, long time off or tomorrow. Due to the signs of the times i.e. massive sin and spiritual darkness in the world, for a Christian it would be obedient to be prepare spiritually and watch for it as instructed. End result of Doom is the return of Christ. I don't base my faith from movies. |
