No the word translated "mark", as in mark of the beast, in the English Bible has the same meaning as the word translated as "tattoo".
So we are talking about an actual image, put into the skin, by using ink or cutting or scarring,(branding).

The mark of the beast will be your cell phone. In many places it is already used in place of debit/credit cards. If you don't have one, you won't be part of the economy.

As I stated above, the Social Security number in America is referred to as the Tax ID of the person.

If a tattooed barcode (to thwart ID theft or something ) was instituted, it would seem a little strange, as most barccoddes already contain 666

i just looked at 10 items with barcodes that were right at hand... not a one had a "666", most didnt even have a single 6.

Don't get me wrong... I don'y think that THIS is the mark indicated by the Bible. As, it would have to be true all over the world and not just in the United States.
