Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 29335662 Mexico 12/14/2012 08:13 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Quoting: Anonymous Coward 29335662 In fact, no calender is hsowing thw moon phase to be rotated by 90 degrees... [link to static6.depositphotos.com] So I am not sure what could cause it... Nice to see though |
Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 29335662 Mexico 12/14/2012 08:18 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The earth's axis may be the cause though I am no expert and have no evidence so my answer will probably just be ridiculed. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1466471 sorry Amigo No worries, but I have thought that too, is it us that are at a different rotation or the moony? I have also seen the moon craters in a different position, like 90-180 degrees too but everyone seems to think this is OK. |

Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 29335662 Mexico 12/14/2012 08:32 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | There is an app called starwalk, I just checked on my friends one and the moon looks exactly like it does outside right now! As it is real time I know the position is true, but I didn't think it adjusted to the phase? Or maybe I have just noticed that the icon is always like that... |
K. Trout User ID: 4135559 United States 12/14/2012 08:33 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Can anyone confirm the way the moon phase is right now? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 29335662 I am seeing a rediish glowing moon, I can make out the outline due to this glow, and the moon has a crescent shape but at the bottom. According to the 2012 Moon Phase calender, the crescent should be on the right hand side of the moon, and it is instead at the bottom... I took a pic but my camera isn't that good and I dont think it came out Yep, same here in South FL...moon looks as strange as I've ever seen it, almost like there's something in front of it. Not that there's something in front of it. But it does look pretty crazy. - Me |

The moon outside here in NC looks exactly like December 16 on the moon phase calendar the OP posted: [link to www.newcastleobservatory.ca] A white moon ... not red. Being the OP is in Mexico, he might be seeing an effect of perhaps heavy atmospheric pollution or something like that to see a red color. *shrugs* |

Surely there can't be two different moonies? I have never seen the moon so large, or glowing so I can see the outline |
Dr. Acula Senior Forum Moderator User ID: 22334 United States 12/14/2012 08:57 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Thanks for that, but if it is known then why isn't it appearing on the moon phase charts? surely the cheshire moon would be happening every winter? - unless there has been a more dramatic equatorial shift? laziness or cost i believe using the same generic phase images over and over... even if it doesn't portray the correct shadowing... it still portrays the same percentage of shadow... doesnt mean the shadow is always in the right spot etc _______________________ |
