If you need that many rounds from a high powered gun, maybe you should rethink hunting as a hobby? A good hunter needs 1 possibly 2 shots to take down a deer or other animal.

I am republishing my three-part series about the LA Riots of 1992 in which Karen and I and the children were trapped for several frightening hours. We were unarmed, helpless save for our wits. The police were conspicuously absent and the bad guys, frequently armed with heavy weapons, owned the streets. It was a defining moment in my life.

I’m reposting this series as a cautionary tale because the Sandy Hook Elementary School Massacre has sharpened the claws of the statist utopians, whose ultimate aim is to disarm law-abiding American citizens.

Just as Obamacare has nothing to do with health, and cap and trade has nothing to do with so-called global warming, anti-gun laws have nothing to do with saving children’s lives.

It’s just another opportunity for the left to centralize power.

are you a US citizen? if you are, you need to learn your history. The second amendment has NOTHING to do with hunting. Its to prevent an oppressive government from putting tyranny against its populations. Look libtard, no matter how many the laws (which criminals dont follow), if someone has a motive.....they will get it done regardless how. If he didnt get it from his mom, he would have gotten it somewhere else. people need to realize it is not just a gun issue. Its a cultural issue. All mass shooters are "crazy" and on anti-depressants and anti-psychotics. And im sure the last shooter was too but they deny it. You know all the medical commercials that say you may feel like you want to commit suicide? well that goes for homicide too. We need to look at big pharma too. But all major media outlets are endorsed by them so they wont bring up the issue.Another problem is the media putting more fear into people watching the news. Misinforming them on what type of guns do what. There are people who didnt even think it was legal to own a gun. Wrongful education is part of the issue. When Obama says "i believe in the 2nd amendment, i think all hunters should have gun rights"....being a constitutional scholar, he should know that is NOT about hunting, target shooting or tradition. We are a free country found on guns, and were given the Bill of rights to make sure we stay free. Founding fathers knew society and technology would change, they know that banks and oppressive governments want disarmed populations so they can control them. Why do you think this is the most free nation in the world? Why do think people come here? Because 200+ years ago, we had a revolution against a tyrannical government. We inherited the right to own guns not to just to hunt but to protect yourself as an individual, your family and your country from repeating history. Most gun owners know this as well. They claim there are 11,000 deaths a year from guns. 90% of that were deaths from gang/police violence. Gang members dont follow laws either. And the logic to take away your protection from "gang' members or other violent criminals is just ridiculous. Either way, I think the issues of guns is just the government using tragedies to further their political agenda. People think that "military style" assault weapons are bad. NO citizen is allowed to own a fully automatic machine gun without extensive permits and need a class A dealer licenses which is next to impossible to get. These "styles" that look evil, function the same the ones that look like less military like. Its just what they perceive it to be. When they say "we want to ban all semi--automatic weapons", thats 90% of all guns. I think there needs to be regulation on violent movies, games, and in society while still having the ability to stay a free nation without taking our rights away. This is a "collectivist" model the government is going by....one person does wrong, so everyone else is punished. That is a military mentality and very dangerous. If people would just re-watch the movie "The Patriot", and see why we have what we have and the scarifies made to give you a free country and see if history repeats itself,

But I wasn't talking to you or about 2nd amendment I was talking to the retard who thinks you can shoot heaps of rabbits with a single shot bolt action rifle.

High powered? .223 sits on the low end of the kinetic energy food chain as far as centerfire rifle rounds are concerned. Its actually illegal to hunt deer in most states because the damn thing is *too weak*. I think 7.62x39 is generally legal to hunt with, but its underwhelming in its own right.

Otherwise, hunting certainly isn't the only traditionally lawful purpose for which a person may own a firearm. Nor do I see 'need' as an issue, and honestly, its probably an argument you don't want to support. There are an awful lot of things that a person can own that they don't 'need'. Perhaps we should ban those as well?

A ban is pointless and won't stop anything. The legal gun market will adapt with advanced designs in lever, bolt and pump actions, while the criminals...the people that are actually the problem... aren't going to give a damn about the ban.
