What a surprise! Inmates using newspaper's gun owner map to threaten guards, sheriff says
Law enforcement officials from a New York region where a local paper published a map identifying gun owners say prisoners are using the information to intimidate guards.

Rockland County Sheriff Louis Falco, who spoke at a news conference flanked by other county officials, said the Journal News' decision to post an online map of names and addresses of handgun owners Dec. 23 has put law enforcement officers in danger.

"They have inmates coming up to them and telling them exactly where they live. That's not acceptable to me," Falco said, according to Newsday.

Robert Riley, an officer with the White Plains Police Department and president of its Patrolman’s Benevolent Association, agreed.

Well, there should be a wiki where people post the names and addresses of journalists and members of the MSM.

These are the chimps and the pawns. They live amongst us and sell us out every day. Let's see how they act when they feel as though they will be held accountable.

Be careful if you are ever buying a house in the area. Especially if it was owned by a CO or LEO.

I've seen cases in the news where a drug dealer sold their (pimped out and therefore recognizable) car and the new owners were targeted and shot.

Inmates and criminals might not keep up on the fact that it's no longer the guard's residence, but YOURS. They are just going by the list in their hand, and sometimes they have someone on the outside take their revenge for them so this could happen SOON. And if I were a prison guard with my address just published, my family would be moved out TODAY and my house would be on the market, just sayin'. That information is usually kept super confidential.

Wow...

So this is...

Really not an issue, is it? Guards being threatened by inmates? How many? What proof do we have that this story even happened? How did the inmates get a hold of the information? Did they write it down? Memorize it?

No, we're being told that this happened and that it's a threat. Let's all be scared because people know where armed people live? I thought the point of gun ownership was to make people like that think twice about giving you problems?

Think about it.

This is a none issue, made up to control how you think.

Actually they do have rights. Some of them are abridged for the duration of their punishment, but they have rights.

It's why there are so many inmates suing the government each year.

And don't forget,

American prison system does NOT rehabilitate criminals. In fact, it has been proven, that the prisons harden criminals and create more revenge and anger issues.

And aren't they releasing criminals because of financial strain?

Yet they keep putting people away for the silliest things - collecting rainwater!!!

So they have a revolving door institution that picks people up, hardens them and strips them of any sense of decency, and then releases them back into the population.

Joy. This world is insane

Going to make it a lot bloodier to do confiscation now. As a gun owner myself I have mixed feelings about this. The ones who will really be worried are the political apparatchiks.

Your point is so flawed and ignorant, I don't know where to begin.

Shot callers inside the prison could easily put a hit on a guard's home/family/ect. The gangs are well organized and I'm pretty damned sure at least one member on the outside has the internet and can click the fucking link as easy as us.

Sure, but that doesn't make it a real issue. "Oh, they might send a hit squad to get the guards kids!"

Because we live in a television program? Get real.

My address has been all over the web for years and guess what? Nothing bad has ever come of it.

Could this be a problem? Sure. Could aliens land tomorrow and take over the world?

We have a lot more evidence that that might be a problem.

So, don't get your shorts in a bunch over this. When a few guards are shot because of it, then it's a problem. Or at least one. Until then? A non-issue.

I don't agree that the addresses should be advertised like that. It doesn't make this into something to actually worry over.

No, you're just easily scared. Life isn't a television program. There is no percentage in going after a guards family. "Oh, they could blackmail a guard!" Except that in real life, if they tried, they'd only lose from doing it. Again, life isn't a movie.

Take the addresses away and see if that doesn't stop the whole thing from doing anything at all.

When a guard is really threatened, it should lead to additional time in prison.

Having said that. Even though I think this information shouldn't have been published in a newspaper, if an inmate wants the address of a guard, I am sure there are dozens of ways to get that information, legally.
In this case the information was presented to them on a silver platter.
