I've given up getting alarmed about stuff around here. Live 10 minutes from Camp David and Site "R" and another 15 from Detrick. Somedays it sounds like a war zone somewhere in the mountains. One day about three months after 9/11 some type of fighter plane buzzed our little subdivision. Shook the house, made the dog bark and scared the kid. I don't know I've ever seen a bulletin like this though. thanks for the pin! Last Edited by warrior poet on 01/06/2013 05:35 PM |

The flights have been conducted during daylight only, and the pilots fly about 80 miles per hour at 150 feet above the approximately 70-square mile radiation assessment area." We live in this area. I don't know if this is normal SOP or not. it is not normal. the info came on WTOP a few weeks ago and it sounds like they are getting baselines. weird. |

That's what bothers me, the new normal isn't so normal anymore. Glad to see others from the Metro area have heard this as well. |

ehecatl User ID: 31636111 Mexico 01/06/2013 06:21 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | They don't need helicopters to test Fuku fallout material. The government measures that well enough from the ground, and the information is far more detailed then they release to the public, and unaltered. This sort of survey and its resolution would only be useful in terms of intentionally created concentrations of materials which emit neutrons, such as hidden nuclear weapons or other illicit concentrations of materials. If this is the case then it is something the govt. should be doing all along anyhow. Last Edited by ehecatl on 01/06/2013 06:21 PM |

If there would be a Danger they would not use a Helicopter because the observed Space is too small! PISS OFF YOU TEPCO SHILL. Quoting: Ricky Retardo They ALREADY HAVE a Baseline ... so they are LOOKING FOR SOMETHING SPECIFIC!! VERY UNUSUAL, particularly the extremely low altitude. They don't need to be that low in order to get a "Baseline" of the background radiation. Something that "can" have a detectable radiation signature IS LOOSE our there ... but exactly what they obviously are NOT going to say. Shoot it may not even be in the area being searched, but the fact that they are actively searching that area indicates that is where they think the target is so they want to check out the entire area around what they think the target is. |

This is very doubtful because a Detection with a Helicopter is by far too noisy, in that case they would come with a Special Unit who look for something "hidden" I still think they just look for a updated Radon Map: Unlike all the other intermediate elements in the aforementioned decay chains, radon is gaseous and so easily inhaled. Thus, even in this age of nuclear reactors, naturally-occurring radon is responsible for the majority of the public exposure to ionizing radiation. It is often the single largest contributor to an individual's background radiation dose, and is the most variable from location to location. Despite its short lifetime, some radon gas from natural sources can accumulate to far higher than normal concentrations in buildings, especially in confined areas such as attics and basements. It can also be found in some spring waters and hot springs.[4] Epidemiological studies have shown a clear link between breathing high concentrations of radon and incidence of lung cancer. Thus, radon is considered a significant contaminant that affects indoor air quality worldwide. According to the United States Environmental Protection Agency, radon is the second most frequent cause of lung cancer, after cigarette smoking, causing 21,000 lung cancer deaths per year in the United States. About 2,900 of these deaths occur among people who have never smoked. While radon is the second most frequent cause of lung cancer, it is the number one cause among non-smokers, according to EPA estimates.[5] Source: [link to en.wikipedia.org (secure)] |

Went to ER two weeks ago. Doctor said it was a sinus infection. It's a persistent bug, doesn't want to let go. I heard a helicopter about two/three weeks ago very low but again, due to the proximity of Ft. Detrick, site R etc, it could've been routine traffic but it warrants keeping an eye on things. Strange days |

Two weeks of testing sounds quite extensive. On the face of it sounds very sensible in that if they were to be looking for something at some time in the future, they have a baseline to overlay that exactly matches the search conditions and criteria. Then again anyone looking to assemble or store something would know which areas to avoid. |
