House prices have gone up but only because theres

a) a shortage of housing

b) the investors who have access to money have bought up all the cheap property and sent rents through the roof

for everyone else anyone trying to get on the housing ladder is pretty much fucked

you need huge deposits, its nigh on impossible to get mortgages and if you do you will pay through the nose

the working class have been fucked so the rich can get richer

I've been trying to buy a house for the past year and have just now decided to take a step back..

Husband and I have no kids, he makes decent money and I own my own business which is doing better each year. We've wanted to start a family for a while as we've been married for 7 yesrs now, but need a home base to start doing so, yet can't seem to get a house..

Been through at least several homes with good offers, all well over asking price, and been outbid EVERY time by "overseas investors with an all cash offer". My elderly parents keep riding my ass because they have NO CLUE how difficult it is these days to do what seemed so simple to them 40 years ago..

In the last year, I have seen the same homes jump $100,000, 40+ offers already in on homes barely even on the market! People are starting to lose their minds again, ala 2005, putting in rediculous offers just to get a bite!

Not sure about the rest of the country, but its gone full retard here in Cali. I'm gonna kick back for a while and see what happens to the market..

Try and find a house in northern NJ on a decent neighborhood. I dare you.

Same here, hubby and I are about to buy and the prices here in my area went up considerably....like 30, 40 thousand (Inland Empire area) from last year. We're waiting for the prices to drop again, but now I'm thinking, if we should buy or not now.

seems pretty spot on....the house i bought with my ex for 340K was last sold about a year ago for 570K despite neeeding some work still on it and not having a deck. i think 600K for houses like that is crazy high when in other parts of the ocuntry you get much more for the money and the sales are apparently not that much different.

Of course it is there. That's where the government aristocracy lives. The rest of the country is still treading water. They tried to say that housing was coming back, but all it got was the usual springtime bounce. It has already started to level off and we're not even into summer yet.

I just opened a orange saving account with 10 euro...i don't know ... very high i think on one spot somewhere.

Another thing is that higher home prices do not equal a rebound in the housing market. It just means the homes cost more and like another poster already mentioned, they only cost more because of lack of supply.
