Officials say Riggs, formerly of Port Jervis, owes just over $329,000 for the cost of foster care for her three children. She was ordered to pay $325 weekly in 1999, when her children were 8, 10 and 12. Parents just do not take responsibility for their kids anymore. Who is John Galt? |

In 1999 she was she was 28. Her oldest child was 12 at the time which means she was 16 when the first child was born. One would assume she likely didn't even finish high school and yet they expect her to pay $329,000? I've never heard of a person having to pay child support while their kids are "wards" of the state. Are they "wards" or not? If not, they should have been home with mom. If the state takes over guardianship, then the state should be the one paying for their care. I'm confused. |

If the father had been raising the kids I would call her a deadbeat mom. However, the kids were taken by the state into foster care and they wanted her to pay for the foster care. It's not quite the same thing. Besides, being 16 when the first one was born, she likely making minimum wage if she even has a job. You can't get blood from a turnip. |

Some women don't love their kids especially if they cant get any money out of them. Go get it and good luck. Kids need love and I'm glad you're there for them. |

Taking legal custody of a child does not absolve the non-custodial parent from financial maintenance of the child. Case in point, fathers have to pay child support even though they have no custodial rights. Get it? dodo. Take the children into foster care does not mean the state does not need the financial assistance of the noncustodial parent. Otherwise noncustodial parents would not have to pay child support in general! idiot |

She had to pay a couple thousand dollars back to the state because of that. It sucked. |

Just like a man, if she's ordered to pay a certain amount, she should have to find a way to get that money or go to jail. It's cruel, and it's usually men that feel that fear. If women feel it too, maybe they'll enable some fucking change. No breaks for the women! The reason the state orders noncustodial parent child support is so that the state doesn't have to pay that itself. Same reasoning applies here. |
