The Titanic was Downed by Time-Travellers

The Titanic never sank, it made it to its destination. It continued to travel all over the world and was considered a breakthrough in transportation and technology. Inventors and innovators were inspired all over the world and soon newer and better technologies were developed. The world developed along a trajectory that lead it to become very prosperous and dynamic. Somewhere along the line, within a black-budget operation, time-travel was discovered and perfected. This was tightly managed by a small group of operatives. They could go back in time and alter events, for the right price. By going back and sinking the Titanic the whole trajectory of technological breakthroughs was smashed and instead fear set in. The Hindenburg disaster was caused the same way. People dared not try anything new and preferred instead to cling onto the new "safe" way of doing things. Do you really think Fukushima was an accident?
