People are now so undisciplined, addicted to sugar and sick that it would be VERY hard for them to do. Especially never having fasted in their lives. Most would panic and believe that they are dying within one day. And yes, the sick ones probably would die. BUT, it can be done and it would kill you if you have the right attitude and reasonable good health. |

Many people have done a one week fast (just water) and didn't die or starve to death. It is all about your mindset, attitude and discipline. Many do a week fast for health reasons. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 46356676 We could then get by on one medium sized boiled potato a day after that week and survive pretty well. At least for a month or so anyway. Not all that healthy, but you would not die. I'm not saying it's easy. In fact, it's damn hard. But, most people cannot go one day without food and not freak out and wanting to riot and break into stores. I once fasted for 9 days...easily, with just liquids. Energy level high during the whole time..You just have to have your mind in the right place.. |

Katrina was a good wakeup call of what would happen. People went to convenient stores buying cookies and candy out of the fear of starving. People could have gone through the first week after Katrina without any food at all. We just need clean water. That is why I don't store water. I have a backpacker's water filter/pump to make clean water from most sources. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 6877072 Many would die just trying to find food when they probably had all they need for over a week right around them. Boil plain rice. Cook plain pasta. Boil a potato. But, in truth, your best choice is to remain calm and not worry about food for at least a week. Water is the key. |

Quoting: s. d. butler Fasting has a long history and can be very beneficial. In many tribes, even children could handle a few days with no food when it was scarce. This is part of our heritage. We have been made to believe that we MUST have food everyday, That is why most are sick and dying now. |

Most people do not resort to murder when hungry. I've talked to elderly who survived big time hunger during war times. My dad was a kid in Europe during WWII. He said there were times when all they had to eat was potato peels from yesterday's potato. And his mom would go without many days so that the kids could eat. Most people knocked on the doors of farmers and asked if they could pick up any fruit or vegetables that got left behind on the ground. So they would forage the fields, looking for anything they could find. I think, most people would start foraging in extreme situations, not killing. Plants, weeds, even bugs could be turned into a meal if you know what you're doing. The stores would probably be wiped out within two to three days and so people would have to start doing something else to get by. Thanks to Obama and others like him, the public has been turned away from the whole idea of morality for morality's sake. Obama and Co. have told the sheople masses that they can't do anything on their own but deserve what other people have as a "right". John Adams responded to a question about what kind of constitution had been given to the American people with this. "The constitution was written for a moral and upright people and is wholly inadequate for the governance of any other." Taking his observance into consideration, you can expect immoral people in places that are already falling apart like Detroit and Chicago to turn into bunch of savage animals. Traditional moral Americans will simply make due with what they have for as long as they can because that is the right thing to do. "God forbid we should ever be 20 years without such a rebellion. The people cannot be all, & always, well informed... If they remain quiet under such misconceptions it is a lethargy, the forerunner of death to the public liberty... Let them take arms... What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots & tyrants. " - Thomas Jefferson in 1787 |

They have NEVER been without. They will kill anyone that keeps them from food. I'm sorry to say this, but it's true. People would do better to learn some discipline than to store guns. |

It will feel like they are dying, when in truth it is what they really need to become healthy. |

We've lost a lot of weight, however, I really, really wish I could buy some of the convenience foods and snacks I used to. It's tough, very tough. |

It's the sick folks who will go first. We have a renter who is 250-300 pounds. We worry about how the hell we would get him out of the place if shtf. He is diabetic. It'll take several people to get him out. That's one of my biggest worries about shtf, seriously. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 17556791 And, some Family members on meds. Yeah, it's all the people on meds that are going to be the bigger problem. If I were them, I'd start looking for natural remedies (herbs and such) that can help with their particular problems, and then stock up and/or start growing the plants they'll need. It's going to be a hell for them with the withdrawls. Constant need for medication. Morbidly obese. Addicted to sugars and processed foods. No discipline at all. Afraid of anyone around them. Never been hungry in their lives. |

Imo. there is a big difference between Fasting and to not have any Food after a Disaster or Catastrophe which killed your whole Family and your Friends too! But from a psychological View maybe it is good to stop eating for a while? |
