AKObserver User ID: 56596077 United States 04/14/2014 06:34 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I wanted the feel it reports from the last Idaho quake, but it's not like you get witness accounts... Quoting: Earth420 Just to see if its like a "release" quake instead of a "jolt" quake... now another one happens, and I wonder how this one felt too... *sigh* in answer to your question...my location is about 16 miles north of the site of the quakes over the past week. never felt big time shaking. the sound is what catches your attention. it's a roar. i think that is because we are in valleys with the rocky mountains around us and my guess is the valleys amplify the sound of whatever is taking place beneath the surface. also, we are on the edge of what's called the "Idaho Batholith", it's a geologist's way of describing the solid granite that is under our feet here. maybe the granite offers stability...any geologists on glp? I'm not a geologist but it's good you are on bedrock you would avoid any gasses released, ground liquefaction and a granite bedrock would probably move as one unit giving a structure some stability minimizing the possibility of collapse. The only thing you would have to worry about is if you are in a landslide area with boulders. jmo. |

Earth420 User ID: 56826429 United States 04/14/2014 06:35 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Simple27, that whole quake dropped? I bet that quake did happen in Montana... Quoting: Earth420 Peace Ya, it was still listed on USGS, but if you clicked on it it said event deleted. I'm sure it happened as well. Ugh! Clearly hiding something!! Youre the second person, who besides myself in the last few hours has clicked on USGS and saw that error message... for when we click on a quake for details... I find it odd? But my link above from USGS still opens the 4.4. Quoting: Simple27 Now Idaho back on the list but Montana still missing. I agree...something's fishy.... You did feel this one, right? of course you feel it, saw vertical blinds moving, sealing fans moving as if the wind were blowing the fan blades. but again, it's the sound, the vibrations that are very curious. Thank You for this information. Did you feel a sudden drop or more a wave? Did you hear the roar before, after or during the quake? sorry for late reply...no drop, no wave...the "event" starts with the loud sound "roar", then the as the sound continues, the sight motion occurs with this sound and only something as i can describe as "vibrations" in the air. it's very hard to express. i'm sure we'll have more and i will be more aware of what my senses tell me. by the way, this is all very unusual to have this activity for a week or more. it, (the "event") seems to happen ever 48 hrs or so. last time we had a big quake was 1983 and that pushed mt borah (maybe 12 thousand elevation ft) up another 12 feet --not sure exactly. A bright knot, or arc, has been spotted, 20 percent brighter than the surrounding ring material and astronomers are interpreting it as a gravitational disturbance caused by a tiny moon.
