Stanford Biologist warns Earth’s 6th mass extinction in progress 18 September 2014 (The Mind Unleashed) – Those who keep taking our biodiversity for granted: dumping corporate waste, spraying copious amounts of herbicides and pesticides, contaminating our water with […] industrial chemicals while generally ignoring the environment at large, have another thing coming. According to a Stanford biology professor, Rodolfo Dirzo, the earth has begun its 6th mass extinction cycle – and it’s our fault. [link to www.desdemonadespair.net] ~*Ride the Wave*~ |

That is heart breaking. What an amazing difference once he was shaved and cleaned up. He's very cute!! I've got one of those. She came from a shelter on Christmas eve. Poor girl was scheduled for death after the holiday break. We named her Gork. Gork is a full size St. Bernard and was down to 68 pounds when I took her home. Morticia didn't think she was going to make it, but we gave her love and food. Gork didn't do much of anything her first couple of weeks here. At the end of her second week she took a lap around the yard with the other St Bernard and the kids. We called it her victory lap. She was exhausted from it, but we have never seen a happier dog. She is missing most of her front teeth from eating rocks, but it just adds to her character when she smiles. This year she will celebrate her second Christmas with us and she is almost back up to fighting weight. She is a big beautiful smelly girl now and weighs in at about 160#. Her favorite plaything is my 20 year old black cat that is less then 1/20 of her weight. I'll see if I can find my photobucket login and post up a pic. |

AKObserver User ID: 41158050 United States 09/23/2014 08:11 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Date: September 23, 2014 Source: American Geophysical Union Summary: The observational hurricane record for northwestern Florida is just 160 years long, yet hurricane activity is known to vary strongly over thousands of years. Digging back into the prehistorical hurricane record, a new analysis shows that scientists' reliance on such a narrow slice of observations has led them to sorely underestimate the frequency with which large hurricanes have slammed into Florida's Gulf Coast. Based on historical records, northwestern Florida gets hit by a hurricane packing a five-meter (16-foot) storm surge every 400 years. Incorporating long-term paleohurricane records, the authors find that the frequency of such a storm is actually closer to every 40 years. [link to www.sciencedaily.com] |
