Have always wondered what month was more likely to pop a large quake and decided to see what I could find. Nothing. At least nothing I could find to give me just some simple data. Being a little OCD on data, decided to figure it out myself. I listed all quakes since 1900 of 8.0 or above. Quoting: WhiteAngel There were a total of 95 quakes. Not going to list all of them here but if you want to see them here is the link: [link to earthquake.usgs.gov] Here is what I found and I did list the 9.0+ quakes. Least number of quakes to most OCT = 4 JAN = 5 FEB = 6 JUN = 6 JUL = 6 AUG = 7 MAR = 9 // 9.0 & 9.3 Japan & Alaska APR = 9 DEC = 9 // 9.1 Sumatra NOV = 10 SEP = 11 MAY = 13 // 9.6 Chile Most number of quakes to least SPRING - MAR APR MAY = 9+9+13 = 31 FALL - SEP OCT NOV = 11+4+10 = 25 WINTER - DEC JAN FEB = 9+5+6 = 20 SUMMER - JUN JULY AUG = 6+6+7 = 19 What does it mean? Spring not only brings flowers and green grass but the most quakes, including 3 of the largest quakes since 1900, two of which happened in March! May has the most quakes and also the largest quake recorded in modern history. October and January were the least likely to have a large quake. I have to say I am feeling nervous |

Isn't that also a peak month for flares and CME's ? Quoting: Gomez Yes it is but I only was working with quakes alone. March is a solar month. I will work on solar info later going off the data Ninz did only, if I can't find what I need to make it simple.
