A disturbance east of the Lesser Antilles has a low chance of forming into a tropical or subtropical cyclone over the SW Atlantic Ocean during the middle part of next week. [link to twitter.com (secure)] Here’s a reminder that hurricane season isn’t quite over: New storm brewing in Atlantic The National Hurricane Center has plopped an “X” on the map and a cone that shows a disturbance out in the Atlantic that, if you extrapolate the cone way, way outward, takes it on a path toward Florida. “Development of this system is not expected during the next couple of days due to unfavorable environmental conditions. However, some subtropical or tropical development is possible around the middle of next week when the system moves near or to the north of the Greater Antilles.” [link to www.miamiherald.com (secure)] Looks like its headed right toward Broward County, Florida. On August 4, 1972, the crew of a US Task Force 77 aircraft flying near a naval minefield in the waters off Hon La observed 20 to 25 explosions over about 30 seconds. They also witnessed an additional 25 to 30 mud spots in the waters nearby. Destructor sea mines had been deployed here during Operation Pocket Money, a mining campaign launched in 1972 against principal North Vietnamese ports. There was no obvious reason why the mines should have detonated. But it has now emerged the US Navy soon turned its attention to extreme solar activity at the time as a probable cause. [link to m.phys.org (secure)] More in link. Good read!!! I find this to be a pretty big deal. Something some of us already knew happened, but to have proof... WARTIME SPACE WEATHER--A SUNSPOT DETONATES NAVAL MINES: Researchers studying declassified Naval records have found evidence that a big sunspot may have caused dozens or perhaps even thousands of naval mines to explode off the coast of Vietnam in 1972. The solar storms of August '72 were already legendary at NASA. These new findings suggest that the event might have been even more potent than previously thought. Get the full story. Have not left the house, no TV, just reading a little on-line. The craziness out there is hitting a crescendo. I don't know if it can go much higher. A friend posted an anti-trump meme on Instagram today. Its all pretty much just our little group and no one has EVER spammed political stuff. She is the first. Couldn't resist. She is also the first to silence anyone who wants to bring up anything about politics in person. She shuts down anything that doesn't confirm her bias. She does it with a smugness that is actually ugly to see. The hypocrisy is at insane levels. Spread the word, change the collective conscious......
