Anonymous Coward User ID: 78288526 Portugal 12/28/2019 06:52 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | This is a terrible calamity! Nearly 500 million animals killed in Australian bushfires, experts fear Quoting: CitizenPerth HARRIET BREWIS 12 hours ago Around 480 million animals are feared to have died in the bushfires sweeping Australia, including nearly a third of the koalas in New South Wales's main habitat. Ecologists at the University of Sydney estimate around 480 million mammals, birds and reptiles have been killed, directly or indirectly, by the devastating blazes since they began in September, The Times reported. This includes almost 8,000 koalas, which are believed to have burnt to death on the state’s mid-north coast. The region, which lies around 240 miles north of Sydney, is home to the largest number of Australia’s koalas, with a population of up to 28,000. Federal environment minister Sussan Ley told ABC "up to 30 per cent of the population in that region" may have been killed, because around 30 per cent of their habitat has been destroyed. “We’ll know more when the fires have calmed down and a proper assessment can be made,” she added. Death toll rises as Australia fires reach 'catastrophic' level More than 100 fires continue to rage across the country, having so far consumed more than five million hectares of land. Nine people have died and hundreds of homes have been razed to the ground during the unprecedented bushfire season. About four million hectares have been burnt in New South Wales alone. |
Arnie User ID: 63034588 United States 12/28/2019 07:15 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I actually thought about it a few years ago. Now that our markets are breaking one record after another and people are working like never before...... makes me think about the wonderful years before everything came crashing down and the Great Depression started. Printing money with abandon just has to end in some spectacular implosion at some point, but they seem to have gotten it down to a fine art this time. We are in a protracted period of overtime as far as cycles go; should have begun a contraction a couple years ago. Some people are doing well, but the majority are just living paycheck-to-paycheck, having to add credit card debt just to make it. The stock market is in a fifth wave of a fifth wave of a fifth wave, etc....will be quite the show when it finally gives up the ghost.........they have started repos, just one indication of running on fumes....... GOOD MORNING ALL,,,HAVE A WONDERFUL SATURDAY ! Last Edited by Arnie on 12/28/2019 07:41 AM AKA Auntie Arnie |
Arnie User ID: 63034588 United States 12/28/2019 07:22 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Looks like I have the flu - thank you oh daughter of mine....sneeze, sniff, cough and fart...... gasps for breath Quoting: WhiteAngel One piece of good news, daughter finally got a job. Now she will be able to pay her own bills instead of even more money pouring out of savings. Next week, hubby hits the job market hard again! Hopefully he can get one that pays 10k more than he was making and with great benefits so he doesn't have to even work at UPS anymore. Can't believe we are rolling in the 20's in a few days. Makes me slightly nervous. We have a great stock market booming and we all know what happened at the end of the Roarin' 20's. Are we doomed to repeat history? Just something I have been thinking about, especially since I am sick as a dog and thinking is a little dark.....lol Oh no WA! I'm sorry to hear you have the flu. : ( Please take good care of yourself and get lots of rest. Sending prayers for you and also for Mr. WA's job hunt! :s27gws: WhiteAngel, please get over this flu quickly ! Last Edited by Arnie on 12/28/2019 07:23 AM AKA Auntie Arnie |
