Okay, papa update incoming.

I'm going to do my best to give as many details as I can about today and what has transpired. My mind is spinning and today feels like it's been much longer than one day.

My aunt (who lives with nanny and papa) called me this morning to give me an update, but it really wasn't much of one. She still couldn't answer any of my questions, but nanny was busy at the time also calling family to give updates. I figured I would wait a bit and let her make her calls before calling her.

My aunt now also has a fever. Apparently her daughter, my cousin, also isn't feeling well. My cousin is 16, almost 17 years old, and also lives with nanny and papa.

I called nanny a while later to ask what she knew, how papa was doing. She said she had just gotten off the phone with him and that he was having trouble breathing. That she could tell while he was talking that he was struggling, short of breath. She said that he told her his doctor was going to be putting him on 'something' for the breathing. Bless nanny's heart, but she just doesn't know what to ask his doctors/nurses, nor does she understand half of what they tell her. I asked if he meant they will be putting him on oxygen, but she wasn't sure. Ugh. She told me that I could call the hospital to talk to him, but not to keep him on the phone for too long because of his breathing problem.

Apologies for being scattered here.

She told me that he didn't eat lunch today. The hospital served him fucking lasagna and burnt peas for lunch!!! What the actual fuck?! Prior to going to the hospital yesterday, nanny had made chicken soup on Tuesday. Papa couldn't eat it Tuesday or Wednesday. Earlier yesterday before he was hospitalized, he was able to eat a little bit of Jello with whipped cream. That's it. That is all papa has eaten all week! And they serve him fucking hospital lasagna while he's sick as shit?!

He asked his nurse if they had a tuna fish sandwich that he could eat instead. Nurse said she would check, but when she returned she said they were out of tuna.



I wanted to wait a little bit before calling him, since I knew he just spoke with nanny and was out of breath. In the meantime I was able to track down the direct phone number to his room, which nanny didn't yet know so I called her back to pass that along, then called my mom to do the same. My mom had also just recently spoken with papa at that point and she was so sad. She said papa sounded really out of it and confused. She said she was telling him that he was strong and that he would get through this and that he said back to her 'this is just the beginning'. Omg! My mom told him that he would be okay and that she would see him soon and he said 'yes, you'll see me again, at my funeral'. WTF??? Papa does NOT talk like this! Ever! My mom was horrified. Papa is normally the happiest, most positive, loving, joking, wonderful man in the world. But my mom said he was emotionless and confused. :( My mom said my other aunt (who doesn't live with papa) also called him shortly after my mother did and said the same. He was really confused. He wasn't sure who my aunt was. Confused her with my mom.

While my mom was giving me this heartbreaking update, my nanny called so I hung up with my mom to take nanny's call. She said that she had just spoken with papa again and that he was just put on oxygen. She told him that I was going to call him, so she was calling to let me know to call now.

I was so nervous to hear how he would sound. I didn't want to hear my papa struggling to breathe/speak. But I had to call him, just to say I love you to him.

To my surprise, he sounded really good when I spoke with him! The oxygen must have helped a lot. He did still seem to have a little bit of confusion about some things. He thought he's been on oxygen all week. He just got to the hospital yesterday, and (finally!) put on oxygen just this evening. Otherwise, he was totally with it. He knew exactly who he was on the phone with, he wasn't breathing heavy or struggling to breathe, he was cracking some jokes, he wasn't being doomy or talking about his funeral, etc. I asked about his fever. If it had gone down at all, and he said not really, it's about the same. I said 102? He said yes, around there. No wonder he gets confused...high fever that isn't ceasing, nothing in his belly, anyone's guess on what they're medicating him with...

He's had terrible diarrhea. Since the beginning of this week, but has gotten worse and worse. This seems to be his biggest concern because it's causing him embarrassment. He's had a few accidents since being in the hospital because he can't get to his bathroom quick enough because he is so weak, and also has a bunch of shit attached to him that he has to pull along to the bathroom. He is mortified. I feel so bad for him. I just told him that it's okay, he's sick, and to make sure he lets the nurse know if/when that happens so they can get him cleaned up. It comes on too quickly for him to get their help getting him to his bathroom. He just tries to make a dash for it, but can't move fast enough. :(

He has no idea what meds they're pumping into him. He just says that he has so many things hooked up to him. He's very uncomfortable. At least one IV in his arm is really bothering him and painful.

I made sure he knows how much I love him and that I will be picking him up to bring him home as soon as he's ready for discharge.

A little while later I called the nurse's station on the floor of the building he's in at the hospital. The woman I spoke with was very nice, but didn't kick in a whole lot of info. Some info though...

Meds she wouldn't really get into with me. All she would tell me is that he was receiving IV antibiotics. Didn't say which kind.

I asked about his fever. He went to the hospital with a temp of 102.4. The woman I was speaking with said that his last recorded temp, which had been taken much earlier in the day (no updated temp in the computer), was 103.1 101.3!

I informed her of a recent medical issue he was having (throat problems/trouble swallowing) that was never resolved so they would be aware, let her know that his IV was bothering him/hurting him and let her know that he hasn't eaten all week, including the lunch at the hospital earlier today. I let her know that he likes tuna sandwiches. :)

I told my mom that she should try calling the nurse's desk in the morning. They might give my mom more info than they'll give to me.

I hope this all makes sense. Too long to proof read lol.

You don't get diarrhea with coronavirus.

My guess is a serious case of the flu (perhaps influenza B), although what do I know. I'm not much of a doctor. But flu can also cause a dry cough and trouble breathing.
