KickinIt User ID: 74785546 United States 11/25/2021 12:16 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I am about 50/50 western PA and SE GA. Up there it's puh-caan, down here it's pea-can, but everywhere I've been it's sir-up. Even down here with that nasty-ass cane syrup...sir-up. Quoting: mistersplinter Most people from here say sir-up, however, I have a few friends who grew up here who say seer-up so that must come from their parents? One of my good friends who says seer-up says it on purpose to annoy me all the time, lol You'd be surprise the weird local dialect we have here. Thank god I didn't pick any of that up, likely because my parents were both from elsewhere. One example is "warsh" instead of "wash". "Farty" instead of "forty". Basically adding in R's where they don't belong. It's ridiculous, and this is local STL speak only, not MO as a whole. It's an odd phenomenon. I do have a strong midwestern twang, however. At least that's what outsiders tell me. I have a few that I move in and out of. And if I get flustered or upset my southern draw comes out big and bad. I've heard many southerners say this about themselves. And I think that probably holds true for many who have somewhat lost their original accents, no matter where they're from |

I live in a college town, and you can almost tell whether a person is local or a transplant by how they say pecan. haha, as much as I love ya, I had a feeling you were one who would say "pee-can". But I am cutting you some slack based on location and because you are a superb human. Another word pronunciation I cringe at is syrup. If you say "SEE-rup" vs. "SIR-up", we have problems. The one word I have fun with is creek. I grew up with it being "crick" not "creek". An old Texas friend used to raz me all the time about it. Western PA calls it 'crick' That's the only place I've ever heard that. I thought it was a Pennsylvania Dutch thing. I grew up in NW Ohio. Totally German settlers. It could be. We used to have an r in words like warsh/wash. My gramma did til the day she died, but teachers fussed us out of it right away. |

Paranoiaaaaa Butters User ID: 80982588 United States 11/25/2021 02:40 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Happy Thanksgiving all! Will have 10 of us here for dinner tomorrow. Not too bad - have had as many as 24 in years past. Sister and her kids & families are having a quiet Thanksgiving. Sister definitely has a mass on her thyroid, and will be having a needle biopsy within the next week. Prayers appreciated. Quoting: justanothergranny Love you guys! Prayers up for best outcome granny I'll be thinking of her. Supposedly, it's the best cancer to get, or so one of my doctors said. It seems I've been hearing of it a lot lately. I have Stage 3 thyroid cancer & had surgery 2 months ago. I just finished radioactive iodine treatment. Happy Thanksgiving all! Darn it Para, I hate to read you're going through this. Will that be in for treatment, or does it depend on how things look now that you've completed the round iodine treatment? I hope you are managing ok and not having too much sickness from the treatment. A very long time ago, I think I was around 19-20, a lump was found on my thyroid during a routine physical. I had to go to an endocrine specialist for follow up and although I don't recall if they pinpointed what caused it, they knew right away it wasn't serious but they did have to aspirate it by needle to remove the fluid. That was not fun at all, but that was the end of it. I was sorta hoping that something minor like this might be what Granny's sister has. My fingers are still crossed that's the case. Best wishes to you and Granny's sister, positive thoughts and love being sent your way. I'm doing good! I made it through without too many issues. If they had caught it earlier, I probably wouldn;t have needed it. The radioactive iodine doesn't make you sick like other chemo. I was a little queasy, but not bad. The special diet I had to follow just took a lot of planning & cooking. I'm all done for 6 months. I just have to wait until then for another scan to see if it got it all. My primary found the lump during my routine physical. I've had a few really crappy doctors over the past few years. Not one of them had ever touched my neck. I hadn't noticed it. He originally thought it was a fatty lump & was shocked to hear that it was stage 3. I'm grateful though. It could have been so much worse. It stayed in my neck & was easily treatable.
