Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 48053655 United States 11/14/2013 07:09 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | It's simple. You just don't believe in one. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 15015575 I know this is cliche, but true: think about how you don't believe in Zeus, Muhammad, Buddha, Apollo, etc. That's how simple it is. No...its not like any of those...because the fact of higher power is observable in the universe. It would be like denying trees, people, cars, etc. exist...when you can clearly see they do. |

Brown Dog User ID: 6299502 United States 11/14/2013 07:10 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Forget about anthropomorphising that higher power for a moment...forget about what the world religions say about God's character or his attributes for a moment... Quoting: Anonymous Coward 48053655 Let's just deal with the concept of a higher power: Science says that an object at rest tends to stay at rest unless acted upon by an outside force. If for example, you believe in the big bang theory...then something (according to science) had to cause the bang. From that point on there is nothing but a series of events, whereby one higher power has an effect on its subject in order to create change. So how can anyone deny the concept of a higher power??? It would be like a rippling pond denying the rock that created the ripples....or the rock denying the hand that threw it into the pond. The Universe Can't exist UNLESS there are higher orders and higher powers. Why don't you be honest about what you believe...it's not that you disagree that there is a higher power...it's that you disagree about the nature, character and essence of what that higher power IS. You would have to be a blind fool to be a pure athiest, the Universe can not exist, not the order of it, WITHOUT a God! It's impossible! your argument is that there must be something beyond this universe to put things in motion. sound logic. however, that doesnt make the "something" beyond universe a deity. |

Gravity for example, has power over you. You are subject to it. Can you make Gravity go away by denying its existance? Of course not. There are higher powers whether people like it or not. |

As I stated in my argument...set aside the attributes and character of it for a moment...whether or not its a Deity is one thing...but everyone has to at the very least admit that there IS a Higher Power to the Universe! The next step would be to define what exactly a "God" or "Deity" is... I would that A God, at it's very basic, is a force or thing that has power over subjective things, and sets an order to them. That's how the ancients viewed them...but then added to the "God"s human like characteristics and stories in order to conver their character and meaning. |

I was being sarcastic.. Sorry, doesn't translate well in type. The more I learn about the universe and society in general, the more I appreciate this gift of life from God. We have this meatbag to manifest our dreams in real time. Its quite the gift imo |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 31705843 United States 11/14/2013 07:32 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | It's quite simple. I don't believe in deities. I think with how wonderful and amazing the universe is, it is silly to think that some magical person or magical persons created it all. I need proof. Some books that were written long ago by people with different languages which were then translated by men who had vested interest in population control are not proof that some magical people live in the sky and made the earth. What I can provide as proof is that the universe is expanding. And that it more and more resembles atoms and the makings of a living structure. As an atheist I believe that I have control over my life, not some ancient man who's father killed him just to bring him back to life to prove how bad us people are. I don't think babies are born with sin because that is again population control technique. I also don't feel the need to believe in some magical being in order to be good to others and treat those the way I would want to be treated. If anything. The only thing I do worship is this planet. It has given everyone since the dawn of time everything they need to live. And yet it is usually the religious types that destroy and monetize it for their own personal gain. |

Those forces in turn were the effect of greater forces that caused them...all the way back to the beginning. Therefore there has to be a higher power. |
