A bill was announced yesterday that would increase jail time for people convicted for assault and would ensure youths are tried as adults if arrested for the violent “Knockout Game.”
The bill, which is currently being drafted by Assemblyman Jim Tedisco, R-Schenectady County, was announced after the “Knockout Game” has become a growing trend. The game consists of youths attacking unsuspecting people to try to knock them out with one punch. “This bill is a deterrent because it will ensure that juveniles who commit these vicious adult crimes are tried as adults. It also ensure that any gang member who is part of a ‘knockout game’ assault – even if they don’t lay a hand on the victim – could face a long prison sentence,” Tedisco said in a statement.

The bill would amend the state penal law to make any person, regardless of age, be tried as an adult and face up to 25 years in prison if convicted for a “knockout game” assault or gang assault.
