For anyone who wants an affordable fighting knife + Knife discussion
So what's your favorite Knife(s)?

CRKT Hissatsu line from James Williams. I just bought the folder for myself for Christmas and was very impressed.

So, some knife companies that I have experience with and have used the crap out of

Ka Bar - specifically their potbelly JAB blade, although the trusty Marine issue is great too

Mora - usually under $30 - great knife

CRKT - mostly made in USA, strong military blades

ANZA - Made from carbon steel files and heat treated for strength

Condor - Made in Argentina, but blades are tough carbon steel, great for hard use, great prices

Cold Steel - I have many CS blades, i think their quality control has gone down a bit.

Ontario - Great company, great customer service, made in the US, affordable, tough as hell.

Scrapyard Knives - Higher end bushcraft, survival, terrific company, American made.

Spyderco - Have only had one of these, but was pleased

Survive knives - Newer company, American made, great tough blades, higher end price.

Blind horse Knives - collector bushcraft and hunting knives. Expensive, but beautiful

I don't know about you guys, but i just can't make myself spend more than like 50 - 60 on a folding knife. I'd love to have a zero tolerance, or one of the higher end Spydercos, but I'm not spending $150-200 on a folder, just doesn't seem worth it to me.

If I'm spending that kind of cash I'm getting something for my money.

Like the Cold Steel kukri

[link to www.amazon.com]

Or the Esee Junglas

[link to www.amazon.com]

I have both and yes they do live up to the hype. Perfect blades for camping, shelter building, batoning.

Any suggestion for a double-sided knife?

A blade on each end?

I think this would be ideal, especially if you were surrounded, or facing multiple targets.

Nice thread OP! I believe the knife and ability to use it in the coming decades will be crucial in the coming decades for people living in cities.

The bolt on these folders is VERY important because this is usually the first thing to give out and when you are in a life or death situation, the last thing you want is your knife to break.

I love fixed blades, but at work when i need to have aknife on me a folder is practical. Of course that doesn't stop me from always having a fixed blade in my bag.

I like the Sog Seal pup. It's what's mounted on my tac vest, but i carry the Rat 5 every day. It's heavy, but i got a kydex sheath made and madified it with paracord. On the sheath is a fire starter, and a diamond rod.

Yeah that's what sold me on the folder i just bought. the pivot bolt is huge for that very reason. You are correct. i remember Wiseman saying three things to always have on your person, a knife, a way to start a fire and a light.

Nice recommendation, i and my former marine buddy have been doing multiple 2 hour sessions a week of "edged weapon training", using James Williams dvd's he has up on panteo productions. I highly rrecommend you watch these dvds and practice. Just as importantas the blade is to survival, so is your ability to use it. DDefinitely getting the folder for.Christmas.

Good suggestion to all op.

Thanks, man. I'd love to do that training. Ordering the DVDs. i love knives, but admit I'm not skilled with them, other that messing around and being familiar with them. They actually make a practice version of the fixed blade. i might need to get that as well.

Re: For anyone who wants an affordable fighting knife + Knife discussion
Can you recommend something for my situation?

I would like to buy a fixed blade knife that comes with a non-leather sheath that I can attach to something other than a belt. Keeping it in a pocket is often not an option because I get around by bicycle and the constant leg motion will probably dislodge the knife.

I have seen the knife sheaths held by a cord to be worn around the neck but that may be uncomfortable and hard to conceal in the summer.

Am I missing any other options?

We just use butter knives for practice lol. If you get a subscription to panteo productions online you can stream all of his and many many others content, that include handgun to long rifle tactics ect.

James Williams is nothing short of a genius in my mind when it comes to knife fighting. He has been teachibg since '75 and trined with samaris (spl?). His tactics seem Aikido in nature, but is done in a way to eliminate aggressor as quickly as possible, without the showman ship of fighting we have grown accustomed to expect. The method james williams teaches is somethjng that can be translated to various weapons and JUST MAKES SENSE.
