My Original Song - A Song For You -&- The American Idol Conspiracy

You have a good voice for musicals and broadway.
I'm guessing you were silenced and didn't make the cut on American Idol due to that.

Thanks for listening and for your comment - <HUGZ!> Perhaps the kind of voice did matter, and they were in fact looking for a lighter, pop-music sound than I gave them...

That said, I am pretty good at changing things up stylistically as needed . . .

That said, my song here is kinda done in "musical" style, and I haven't decided whether I should keep it that way or lighten it up a bit for a quieter, folksy pop style... :)

I'm gonna tell you honestly that your voice is average. I can hear your kind of singing in a karaoke bar. Everyone can learn notes and sing in key, but not everyone has a good voice.

But do what you like, I like to sing too, although I know my voice is average and nothing special I attended choir from 4 years old and love to sing. I'm just saying that do what you like to do, but don't get your expectations too high up and don't expect to get something out of what you like to do. Do it for yourself, not for money, fame or even compliments.

Sage advice... Most importantly, I do it for God . . . :) I guess you might even call it worship.

You worship yourself? Cause I get the feeling you're New Ager, and most New Agers believe they are their own God. You're definitely not talking about my God.

I believe God is in everything and everyone. In yourself, in me, and in the entirety of what we know to be the universe and beyond. We are part of that greatest being like cells in a body.

That said, perhaps I'm not talking about your God. But, I am talking about the God I can see in everything, and in you when I look into your eyes-- into the eyes of any person on Earth.

Call it New Age or not, I am a Christian, and this is my worship.

I don't want to derail your thread, although, maybe bumping it will somehow help to get more views. I'm sorry that you see God in everything and in everywhere. Your view on life resembles gnosticism in some way. I don't see God in murderers, rapists, thieves and liars. I don't see God in nuclear or chemical waste. I see God's beautiful creation and I see Holy Spirit in good and honest people. I see God as love and justice.

I don't believe you are Christian, you should be honest to yourself and others. Christian theology goes against your beliefs and practices.

:) God certainly is the greatest bringer of all love and justice in the world . . . and I'm a follower of Jesus' pattern-- just not one who subscribes to total orthodoxy... I would hope you might open your mind to the idea that many people of many different beliefs hear from the Holy Spirit-- and by their fruits you will know them.

For your benefit, I'll tell you that I accept and affirm Jesus Christ as my savior who set into motion philosophies and events that liberate the hearts and minds of countless people-groups everywhere. (Quite a love and justice God, as you would put it.)

That said, where I part with the New-Agers is that I acknowledge our location in an imperfect world where people theive, murder, and rape... But, then, I still see God in the human being-- though they committed an evil act that by its very nature may existentially separate them from the whole-- from God. That separation is only temporary, in the mind, and the love of God exists for them too.

So, I'll own my heresy- Panentheistic Monism. :P Gnosticism was more about divine knowledge and wisdom...

My challenge to you is to open your mind to see who might fulfill God's plan as Christians (or of no faith) and not agree with your theology... :) There are many... and I have heard the voice of God spoken in almost every religion out there.

I have some expertise in this field - let me make a suggestion.

YOU ARE TRYING TOO HARD…

I mean that. To many mental gymnastics going on. You can't hear your soul because you are concentrating on all the fluctuations. Let your voice breathe…

The song is pretty enough (I realize you don't have a symphony behind you) but I can't get lost in the vibe because you are working it too hard.

Hey- thanks! I'll try to have some more fun with it. That said, you're right- I was trying too hard to get a good recording, and ended up using a metronome to do it. It kinda sucked the soul out of the whole thing, which is usually there. . .

:) How would you recommend getting into the vibe a bit better?

I would need a bigger sample to offer any real useful advice. But I have an idea that has worked for others in the past…

Shorten the song by eliminating all the repetition - it doesn't matter how short it is (quality over quantity). If you are uncomfortable with that, you will need to write additional versus to lengthen the piece.

Slow down your presentation, without slowing down the beat. I hope you can follow this, it's easier to show than to type. DON'T SLOW DOWN THE SONG, just your verbalizations. Think about being just a little late with each beat - you won't be late because musicians are always on the beat, but if you think about lingering just a little it will affect the tone and add tenderness and soul.

Dwell on every note. Feel it. Live it. It seams that you are mentally already ahead of the song - thinking about what comes next. THAT DOESN'T WORK. You have to live each note, caress it without overdoing it. Be in each moment.

In general - just slow yourself down mentally.

I've found it helps if your song tells a story. It gives you a place to go: think Billy Joel's Piano Man. Most artist can't find an audience until they create a song that tells a story. Once they get the public's attention, then you can release a song based on melody and the quality of your voice. Before then, it is just too difficult to get the attention.

I guess I had a few more ideas than I thought. I hope one of them helps you in some small way.

I'm quite appreciative of your knowledgeable input and advice, and do follow what you're saying.

You've clearly done this for a while... You've given stylistic advice that I relate to quite distinctly, and helped me to see how artistically crafting the music can essentially bring out the soul better...

So, thank you-- and the story-song idea is something I'm going to try... I'm going to write something that tells a story today, or at least begin the long-term project of such a thing.

You should try to get that airy sound out of your voice, don't know how to describe it, when you sing you sound as if you are not using your full voice ... other than that it didn't sound bad

Thx! I was trying for the airy quality at times, but kinda doubted it was helpful ..

I think that's an overrated quality, but that's just me

Keep it up, OP. Always wished as an adult that I was musically talented. I would like to play the guitar like you. You have talent, now just go with it.

One last thing before I have to go for today:

Thank you all so much for your input and advice; because, believe it or not, that is more respect than American Idol gave me. I am a real person with real art to share and real dreams...

And I acknowledge that I may not be the greatest musician in the world or even God's gift to humanity. (LOL! Well, maybe I am...? :P) You can't take yourself too d#$n seriously, even if you believe in serious things.

So, when the show comes on television again, remember that there are real musicians with real passions to share that just want to get better at their art getting slammed to Earth on that show... in not so kind ways...

Conspiracy or not, it really hurt my feelings to have 22 million people watch me be made fun of on international television with syndication two years ago.

But, I share with you what I have in Don Quixote style, and thank you for the kind advice and thoughts-- it's something that will make my art better rather than tearing me to pieces for the entire world to see.

I never got the chance to really get in front of people and share the talent, I wish I could have, but at the same time kinda glad knowing how people can be and how hard it is to accept constructive crit.
