when the plane is on the ground to prevent false returns
stand by for take off
the tower instructs on your individual code right before takeoff
There is also a hijack code
and a radio out code

Does the ELT use g-force or water to activate? What are the odds that a crash happens and it does not activate?

Can anyone explain why it is even possible for the transponders to be shut off during flight. Or even the fact that pilots have the ability to do so. What purpose does this serve?

1. Aircrew was involved.

2. 40 minutes into the flight, the aircraft was handed off from Kuala Lumpur Control center to Ho Chi Minh control, never made contact with Ho Chi Minh.

3. At that same time, the transponders and all signals from the aircraft that could be disabled were turned off and the aircraft vanished. Theory is that it descended to avoid radar coverage and turned West.

4. Had at least 7 hours of fuel remaining at that point.

5. 1 hour later there was likely primary radar contact WEST of Malaysia over the Malacca straits. This was likely due to the aircraft climbing back up to cruise altitude, thinking it was out of radar contact area.

6. NO debris has been found after 6 days and wide area search.

7. It's gone folks - my bet is on Iran Konarak airfield, 2 miles long and first Iranian airstrip on the coast, if indeed it had enough fuel to get there.

But it sounds like one hell of an amazing pilot to have flown all the way to Iran or wherever, off radar and all..... seems unlikely to me.

I too believe it was hijacked. If it was able to just disappear just think what may be on it wherever it re-appears in a couple of years.

If that did happen and it is to be used in a future operation I highly doubt the US would be a target. Would be almost impossible to pull off. Unless NORAD had the most epic failure in communication ever. Oh wait...
