what is this light tan dusty substance all over our cars in laporte county, in?

We get that quite a bit here in the UK,it turn's out it is dusty sand from the sahara that has been whipped up in storms.

Pollen? It is spring.

Evergreen pollen is tannish-orange, so probably this.

I don't think its sand or pollen. We just had more snow last night. The winter that will never end. I'm about 45 minutes ne of chicago.

I have two step daughters in LaPorte. I will Facebook the step daughter who is most assessable one to see if her car had the same dust.

I know you dont think so, but it sounds like pollen. IT usually happens in the south. Gets everywhere, even inside your cars air conditioning system. Saw it in Louisiana except it was greenish yellow.

Be interesting if it was something else though.

i'm just relaying what other people say. this is a dark tan/brownish color. i see pollen every year and we're having a late spring because it never stops snowing here. i just read somebody said there was a large 'boom' as well saturday night. if there are any northern indianer's out there i'd be interested to know if you heard of any of this as well.

I am betting on pollen I was in MI in 2004 and the pollen there covered cars it was green but the color varies by species.

Right, i hear ya. Other than pollen i remember volcanoes carrying ash as a kid so i guess a large enough explosion could cause that to happen as well. Good luck figuring it out.

My step daughter from Laporte knew nothing of the dust as she spent the night in Lake County. However my new husband, which was raised in Laporte stated that if the winds were strong enough, this dust could have come from the steel mills. He recalled something similar many years ago.
