I looked up what they were. Mason Lucifer flowers You must not be familiar with the way that they name plants! "Crocosmia" is the name of the actual plant. The "Masonierum" (sorry, didn't copy down the name before I hit reply) part refers to whoever discovered or developed the particular plant. So, someone named "Mason" is responsible for this particular variety. Which brings us to "Lucifer". Since the allure of the Crocosmia is its' beautiful fiery colors, one would naturally choose a name for a new variety which referred to fire (Notice on the picture how the flowers go from yellow to red and then imagine a whole flowerbed of these colors waving in the wind) so since Lucifer is the KING of fire, this flower is the KING of crocosmias!! Maybe you need to step away from the computer and go for a walk or something - you're reading WAY too much into this! And your life WILL be hell if you tear out those flowers which your wife bought and planted!!! Good luck with the rest of your garden!
