Rainier Volcano Acting Up- Long Period Events Happening Over the last day or two, some nasty looking long period tremor type events have been happening under the massive mountain volcano: [ link to pnsn.org] That's just a sample, but there have been many of them now, and word has it that there has been a special kind of volcanic signature known as a "tornillo" spotted there. In addition, the GPS units have all been trending upwards lately, making one wonder if magma could be inflating the beast. [ link to volcanoes.usgs.gov] Now the doom in Iceland is fine and all, but if you live anywhere near Rainier, you'd better keep your eyes on that thing. Cause if it blows, you are in for a REAL bad hair day. From Wiki: Mt. Rainier is considered one of the most dangerous volcanoes in the world, and it is on the Decade Volcano list.[7] Because of its large amount of glacial ice, Mt. Rainier could potentially produce massive lahars that would threaten the whole Puyallup River valley. [ link to en.wikipedia.org] |

Rainier Volcano Acting Up- Long Period Events Happening another LP event happening now as we speak. Check the graphs. They've happened before there, but the issue is how many of them are happening now in such a short period of time. That one is going on like number 11, in the last day. Usually, just one or two happens, and then *poof* gone. This time they are sticking around. Not good. |

Cause ramp up times can be amazingly short sometimes. Like hours. |

I've wondered for years why microsoft doesn't put a billboard up there or tie up a blimp you could see from Seattle.
For people scared of heights, the Carbon Glacier is a fun hike and you can watch trees, rock, and mud fall in little piles from the glacier as it melts. |

I made two attempts at the summit in 2000 and 2001. Made it 500' short of the summit in 2000. Both times this route: [ link to loomisadventures.com] "The Physical World is a mystery, wrapped in an enigma, coated in a conundrum, basted with a paradox and garnished with uncertainty" |
