Are you Canadians ? Generally I try to be one person, those split personalities are way to confusing... And it was a joke, as much as sea lion was a joke.. no amount of wishing would have made that work without turning the Germany army into a real amphibious maritime force. As Napoleon put it, that was another case of the elephant fighting the whale.. |

Dunkirk was a repeat of Corunna... and until the retreat at Dunkirk, Corunna was held in a similar high/low regard, but as much it was an escape from the jaws of death it was also a shameful disaster, sending to an expeditionary force that was not up to the task I guess a British Army won't be able to escape like that a 3rd time ;) or maybe next time we won't send an expeditionary force that was not large enough to complete the job.. |

The battle is on the hometurf now...hedgerow for hedgerow... I only have to take the dog for a walk for 10 mins to see hill forts/castles/bunkers stretching from now back 3,000 years... not really a change is it... For the record, I live on the Southdowns.. hence an avid interest in Sealion as the main landing spots/paratroop drops are in dog walking distance.. This year is the 750th Anniversary of a major battle here, the Battle of Lewes, which took the crown from the Kings head, took foreign influence from the governance of this land and the start of the Parliament we know today.. Even the King of the Germans was captured at that battle ;) Although on that last part I suspect those who took part in Lewes might look at the Parliament we have today and cast their eyes to the sky.. |
