Noooooo, you're quite right. Some explanation seems to be required.

South Africa isnt a place for sissies. You have to look seriously a life and see the joke. So the national sport is poking fun at yourself. And making jokes about tradgedies, as they happen.

The problem is, when you get so good at doing this that it spills over into art, everyone else recognises the deep competence, but not just how incredibly deep the tounge can go into the collective cheek. It does not translate.

They are our proudest export. :)

Go on wear your shame with pride. This is tasteless and boring. Babylon will fall.

But as you can clearly see, even in South Africa, sense of humour failure is rampant.
