Useless Cookie Eater User ID: 29696048 United States 03/02/2015 10:46 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | So I've had to have my bank cancel my debit card for the 2nd time in about a month. The first time somebody got away with 5 new pairs of Adidas and Fred Perry trainers, some t-shirts and jeans from Burtons and River Island and about 12 very large JustEat takeaway orders. Over £900 worth of fraudulent transactions. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 44863486 This time I have managed to catch the fraud early, I notice a Netflix payment coming out of my bank account this morning. It's obviously a test transaction as I have never used Netflix. This must be internet related because nobody has access to my debit card, it's ALWAYS in my wallet. I need advice, what precautions should I take to safeguard my internet use? I use my card for payments online if I can't use PayPal and I always thought I had good security set up on my laptop, McAfee Live Safe came pre-installed. The fact that somebody was able to get my new card details so quickly has got me worried, I cant just keep canceling my bank card every time this happens. What steps do I need to take to make my PC safe for use? Should I contact my ISP? What internet security programs should I use? Any help is much appreciated! Use a credit card for online transactions. With a debit card...when the money is gone from theft....it's gone. ...and PAY OFF THE CARD MONTHLY. Do not let debt accumulate for the loansharks to get rich from. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 1561325 United States 03/02/2015 10:56 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | OMG! McAfee is the biggest piece of shit security software ever... You're going to have to wipe the hard drive and re-install Windows to actually get rid of the McAfee. My recommendation would be something by ESET for virus/internet security. Do you always make sure the site you're buying from is on a secure connection? I always double check right before actually typing in my card info. If it's http: and not https:, I don't type nada in and find another vendor. |

I will, under protection of law, use lethal force if attacked. |

Quoting: Useless Cookie Eater With a debit card...when the money is gone from theft....it's gone. Depends on the bank. I had fraudelent transactions made on my debit card to purchase gift cards at a Wal-Mart in TX, where I have never been. I was reimbursed the money taken from my account immediately upon report of the fraud. What useless bank do you do business with that treats fraud through a debit card differently than a credit card? |
