My 50++ year old friend slapped in the face by his 6 year old nephew in public in front of us.
So my friend picked me up to go flying rc plane today. He brought his 6 year old nephew. At the field, the little boy was insolent, started calling other friends 'pigs'. Then touching things he shouldn't be touching including dangerous firestarting stuff, playing with lighter trying to burn tree leaves. Then he started picking fights with other adults on the field trying to bite them, who has their patience tested.

I told the boy to behave himself and if his parents won't discipline him, I will, so i pinched his ear. He started to come after me, trying to hit me as much as possible, while I hold off both his hands with my left hand. He started cursing me to die by burning to death, and all sorts of curses. This boy does not respond to verbal threats and lessons. He does not even respect his uncle, my friend.

Then when we thought everything was cooling down, he acted up, and slapped his uncle, my friend who is in his 50s, in the face. I could see how awkward the situation must be, especially when my friend just sat there and let the 6 year old boy slap him in the face. I could no longer stomach it, but yet I couldn't hit him directly. So I straight away told off the boy loudly, how dare you slap your uncle in the face.

This eventually forced my friend to have to stand up and defend his dignity by FINALLY taking matter into his hands and gave his 6 year old nephew a big tight slap in the face and the nephew threw tantrums in tears and left the field and locked himself in the car. What an awkward moment, I wonder how the fuck the parents teach the boy, or if they even did, to allow him to progress to such a state he does everything he wants and attempts to beat the shit out of anyone he likes, including adults, and even own uncle.

Yes, he is the eldest uncle. The nephew is the younger brother's son.

Very badly brought up I think. The boy has no respect for adults.

Hitting him back just reinforces the fact that it's ok to hit someone when you're aggravated with them. Little kids get aggravated a lot, so it just means he's going to hit a lot.

Re: My 50++ year old friend slapped in the face by his 6 year old nephew in public in front of us.
One of my sisters was telling me something that went down in the store her daughter work at. A little six year old boy was breaking eggs, when confront about it he said, that it was his right to do this. His mom, when looked at, did not know what to do. She had not spanked him or anything or stopped him. She thought she could not or the DHR would take him, my niece informed her she could discipline the child legally. Not abuse, but discipline.

The mom said, what should she do, the person in that area told the little boy he had to paid for breaking the eggs, because the eggs belong to him and it was his right to make him paid. So, he told him he had to clean them up, vacuum, and mop.

She, niece said, the boys eye got real round and said did he have to do this, his mom looked straight at him and said you broke them and you have to pay. They made him use the vacuum, she checked out, put the groceries in the car. Came back to check on him, he had not finished, the little boy started to leave and she said to him, no you can not come, you have not finished paying. After she started walking off he was getting upset, remember he was only six, scared, first time I think. She stopped asked had he learned anything, yes, I don't have a right to do thing like breaking eggs. They all, looked at him and asked are you going to do it again, NO! So, I think one little boy may have learned a life long lessen and so did his mom. Something good happens sometimes, when, you help in slightly unorthodox ways.

Helping the Uncle helps the child, sometimes they don't know how to react, the government and this don't do that, or, we will do this to you. Well, look at where all this not correcting has led, it was the don't spank your child. A child six and under most of the time, do not under stand concepts except, discipline in action. This well work for older children and teens, if backed up by parents.
Daughter out with my own way.

Re: My 50++ year old friend slapped in the face by his 6 year old nephew in public in front of us.
My tot got out of a hitting phase not too long ago. We think he picked it up from his play group. We didn't have to hit him back to get him out of it.

I'm mom, so my reaction was more about the pain. He's a big boy, so it did hurt sometimes. So I expressed that it hurt. And that it hurt my feelings. And that it was wrong to do that.

He's less sympathetic to dad, more comrodery, wants to do the cool things dad does, so when he acted out on dad, dad told him how un-cool it was.

You don't need to completely shame a kid or put too much guilt him. If you do, he might keep hitting, just to prove to himself that he didn't do anything wrong, to fight the shame, to desensitize himself.

How anyone could hit a 6 year old is beyond me.

And let me guess, his parents don't discipline him at all either.

A little while ago, the father of one of the boys I work with dropped him off. As his dad was about to leave, the boy slammed the door in his face. The dad just stood there and said nothing. He then left.

I have 3 boys that I work with that just don't seem to care about anything. They are destructive, no respect for people or property, and have zero empathy. It's quite scary, especially since over the years, there seem to be more and more of them coming along.

Idiot. Hitting him back shows that being violent will get you hit back. Eventually, the little shit will realize that it doesn't serve his interest to get a beating and will stop hitting people.

It is by allowing this behavior that we reinforce the idea that it is ok for him to be violent to others. After all, the only punishment he will get is a talking to, which he can simply ignore.

Spare the rod, spoil the child. He needs his ass beat with a leather belt like I used to get.

He will learn respect then.

Re: My 50++ year old friend slapped in the face by his 6 year old nephew in public in front of us.
My nephew is just like this. Slaps people, runs around wild, disobeys.
His mother doesn't discpline him. She buys him multiple iPhones so he can occupy himself, so she can go socialize on the phone.

None of his blood relatives discipline him. It's like they don't know how, or they just don't care enough to bother.

I yell at him very angrily by explaining the concepts he's violating and asking him how he would feel in situations. One time when he was throwing a tantrum and I wanted to slap him but I remember I felt worst when I disapponted my parents.
So I told him "I love you so I just want the best for you." He started crying when I said that and behaved ever since around me.

You have to instill fear in them before getting to that point, then their little brains will finally connect the dots that misbehaving means disappointing your family.
